Default Mustard Seeds

This deserves its own thread of course

played yesterday in Lyon after Stefan requested

sounds incredible! I knew it was gonna be a serious song about growing up and death and all... I know there´s a story/legend about trading your life for a mustard seed with death or something, can try to find it later, on the phone now

if one day I wake up
and my body is old
I will want to have loved
and I don´t care much for gold

I gave it a try, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Quote:
Mustard Seeds

maybe we are mustard seeds
underneath a heavy stone
nothing lives if nothing gives
nothing held too tight will grow
as those of us afraid of love
all know

‘cause if one day I wake up
and my body is old
I will want to have loved
and I won’t care much for gold
if one day I wake up
and I know it’s the end
I won’t need to pretend
to be anything at all

may we be worry free
breath it in and let it go
may we live to forgive
careful 'bout the things we're told
‘cause those of us curious
can grow

‘cause if one day I wake up
and my body is old
I will want to have loved
and I won’t care much for gold
if one day I wake up
and I know it’s the end
I won’t need to pretend
to be anything at all

anything at all

no I won’t need to pretend
to be anything
at all

May we be worry free
Breath it in and let it go
May we live to forgive
Well we might as well

That's what I heard
Beautiful to hear this at last, would have loved to have been there!

i think the story is that this mother, her son dies, and goes to Buddha and asks for her son to be brought back to life... and Buddah says yes if you bring me a mustard seed from a family that has not lost a child themselves... guess she searches and realises people lost their sons all the time, it was not her...

I knew the story cos Tori Amos also uses the metaphor in The Beekeeper, her mother was sick and almost died so in the song Tori goes to talk to death with a mustard seed, trying to trade places...

the mustard seed is also a well known parable in the bible.

Driving back to Dublin so have been listening.. I think the line is
Maybe we are mustard seeds
Underneath a heavy stone
Nothing lives if nothing gives
Nothing held too tight will grow

Also I hear
I will want to have LOVED

Does anyone else think there was another verse that he sang dum de da etc to??

Feel really chuffed to hear this song...I remember reading the chatter about it here when the instagram pic was seen...thanks stef for getting Damien to sing it and for taping it and sharing.. It's brilliant.. Sad poignant song, which I think is about love being more important than wealth, at the end of the day... Sentiments I'd concur with...Damien seems v uninterested in material trappings to me...

Yes, stone does make more sense than storm.
I do hear 'love' though, not 'loved'

first time he says "love" there´s no "d", think "love" makes more sense with the next line

Thanks so much for requesting Stef and for uploading, Caroline! I love the song and the conversation preceding it is really funny. Good stuff! Have we gotten a live Camarillas yet? I can't remember if he's played it yet.

Really like it. I wish he played it every night, a real highlight...

but that line is absolutely "loved" and not "love". It just makes more sense.
