Cmon on now emmet
Cmon, i respect u do a good job an all but u just suppressed a site that was not talking about Damiens personal life, but his political beliefs and persuasions. And even if there was a hard lined republican on there, why shouldnt we have a healthy political debate on Damiens issues 'Anything to do with Damien Rice' i believe this says. Why shouldnt we hear a joke about a evil man whos killed thousands and thousands of people and caused children to have their heads blown open and limbs shot off? Didnt Damien release a single with the proceeds going to a stop the war orginisation?
Isnt this to do with his beliefs? Sorry, this is a long speel but cmon now, i think uve got it wrong and gone too far on the whole suppresion thing. I wouldnt mind if u changed the board to 'Anything to do with Damien Rice except his beliefs and jokes' |

i think emmett closed the thread as the controversy the last one caused... i remember it turning into quite a nasty thread and we dont want a repeat of that...

Oh god yeah, the one where that guy kept saying that damien was a nazi skinhead because he said that he didn't like the invasion of iraq, that guy had probably never been outside the same 4 square miles in texas. That was a pretty vicious argument, look it up and you'll understand emmett better.
Scary stuff really...

I could definitely understand the frustration at a thread being closed down for what seems to be no reason, but politics and this forum have never mixed, especially when there's scary deep south bible belt people involved.

i had no problem with you asking about socialism or liberalism... but when it looks like it might have the potential to get ugly again (as it did almost every time we talked about this before) i'll shut it down. you're obviously a newbie here, but i got a lot of hate mail for hosting related topics before.
i've replied to you more fully by private message, i'm not sure why you needed to start a whole new thread. if you had a concern you should have just asked me via private message. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism
from what I remember, socialism eventually turns into communism. Pure communism is not so bad, but pure communism is impossible to have because someone always gets greedy as that is human nature.

what bothers me --and i swear i'm not refering to anybody in particular-- is that many people see communism and socialism as pure evil and they don't even know the difference, they don't even know what these ideologies mean. but people here in the states have always heard that communism is wrong, bad and even a diabolic ideology and some don't care about knowing anything more. it's the same about the war in irak, most people don't care about what's behind that war or how many innocent people have died and are still dying. i was told once that i'm against our troops beacause i'm against the war, which is totally ridiculous, i'm not against our troops. but i am against the war and i don't agree that innocent people must suffer in the name of what the media and government sells us as "iraqi freedom". what bothers me is not the ideas but the ignorance of the people

communism though it bans religion actually seems to be the ideal chrisitian world... problem is human nature is to be greedy and so in recorded history all attempts haven't been successful.

I recommend that people read a book on Karl Marx.
I'm not political in any shape or form but was interested in the premise of communism and was surprised by what I found. The idea of abolishing private property so no-one starves, no-one is homeless and wealth and prosperity is shared is a nice vision. The basic idea that everyone works for the benefit of all, so no-one goes without... is sound. As many have pointed out, greed gets in the way and how many here would be happy never owning anything... no Cds, no cars... nothing? It is also important to realise the Marx's vision for communism was during a VERY bleak time for his people and revolution was necessary. It is also worth noting that none and I mean NONE of what we consider to be 'communist' countries are what Marx had in mind. I think true communism is and will only ever be... an ideal. We are too commercially minded and selfish as a race for it to succeed. Read... It cures ignorance.

You think cats and dogs give a crap about private property?
I think 'race' is apt.

Wow, so from me slagging off restriction of free speech it led to a long political debate of free speech. Ironic?

i think that's about something else than 'private property', funky you. it's more a matter of survival for the dog really. i don't think dogs claim 'private property' such as we do. i think private property is a purely human/'civilized' (and i don't mean that in a particularly positive way) invention.

listen to john lennon's imagine evryone who is unsure what the communist ideal is but in the reality it just doesn't work and human nature is greedy and wants not to share things and i don't think that we should be so down on civilisation cille cause it's handy living in a society where stealing and murdering is considered bad. when there's no order people run around killing and stealing and anything goes... so civilisation may be greddy and obssessed with material goods but at least its a kind of order that works. and private property isn't just a human thing, study some apes and see how they behave when new apes try take over their things eg banana tree or home and if the way a dog behaves when you try take its food is about survival then surely the human instinct to protect whats theirs is on some level because of a survival instinct too??
