9 Crimes cover (just a girl, sorry no Damien)
Hey there. I really love this song and just wanted to play around with it. I know it has some issues. I'm not the best pianist and it's even harder on the keyboard to make it sound beautiful. But anyway, it's track 3- the other songs are covers I did of 2 Vanessa Carlton songs.
I'm new by the way!! http://www.jukeboxalive.com/audio_pl...php?mid=763173 |

Thanks guys! I will definitely listen to your song(s), but I'm at work right now so I can't at the moment... but I will later!
I don't have a myspace anymore. I used to have one for music, but it got deleted. I'm not sure if it was because of my not using it or because my songs were cover songs and they thought I was trying to make money off them. haha. If you have a myspace though, I'll check it out! |

Welcome!! You have a lovely, sweet voice - really like the first song on your jukebox. I am just beginning to teach myself piano on a keyboard any advice?!

Hi! Thanks, thanks! I really like Damien Rice music and I wish more were piano because I'm too lazy to transcribe guitar to piano, but I like playing his stuff hehe
^^ Oh, well that first song on there, Twilight, was the first song I ever learned on the piano (like 5yrs ago, but still a favorite)!! I mostly play by ear. I can read sheet music only very slowly, so I try to just figure it out by listening. Umm, tips?? If you get a good notion of chords, then it makes more sense when you try to pick something out. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm not an expert myself. Those 3 songs are not really very difficult to play. 9 Crimes is extremely, extremely easy. It is just 4 chords over and over. I just wanted to add that since you are playing on a keyboard instead of a piano, you will probably have some difficulties you would not encounter on 'the real thing.' I have a cheap, $300 Yamaha, and I find that the keys are too skinny, too short (so I can't push them down as far), and because they are plastic my fingers slip off of them more easily. It makes it more difficult to play in a flowing, easy manner, but not impossible... since you are learning on one you may become accustomed to it! Last edited by Noellenc; 01-29-2007 at 07:06 PM. |

Wow! Twilight is an amazing song. I don't know what the Vanessa Carlton version sounds like but yours sounds beautiful Do you have the sheet music in digital format you could send me?
Your voice really sounds nice and I enjoyed listening to these 3 songs |

I might be able to find it, and if so I will edit this post with a link. Twilight is one of my all time favorite songs. Her album version has a lot of strings and orchestration, the end is almost an all out symphony. I actually prefer it just piano though because the lyrics are so powerful -- I will just write them out here because Damien Rice fans appreciate lyricism and Vanessa gets a lot of flack for "A Thousand Miles" because of it's pop appeal.
I was stained by a role, in a day, and not my own. But as you walked into my life you showed what needed to be shown. And I always knew what was right, I just didn't know that I might peel away and choose to see with such a different sight. And I will never see the sky the same way And I will learn to say goodbye to yesterday and I will never cease to fly if held down and I will always reach too high, 'cause I've seen twilight. I never cared, never wanted, never sought to see what flaunted. So on purpose, so in my face, couldn't see beyond my own place. And it was so easy not to behold what I could hold, but you taught me I could change whatever came within these shallow days. Repeat chorus But as the sun shines through it pushes away and pushes ahead and fills a warmth of blue, but leaves a chill instead. I didn't know that I could be so blind to all that is so real, but as illusion dies I see there is so much to revealed. Repeat chorus Repeat first verse And an interesting piece of info is that she wrote this song when she was about 17 when she ended up having to leave ballet school in NY. She said she wrote it at a rickety old piano they had in the dorm and she didn't have any intention of even being a singer then. Sorry for plugging her, but I'm a big fan |

Vanessa Carlton has a fansite at www.nessaholics.com and people there are very helpful with sheet music and things of that sort.
These are transcriptions of many, if not all, of her current songs- b sides, unreleased and all. http://www.freewebs.com/nessfan12/sheetmusic.htm |

Thanks for advice noellenc. Can play 9 crimes and some of rootless tree, surprisingly feature same notes as 9 crimes! I'm sure i read somewhere that Damien had only learnt to play piano between 'O' and '9'....

Yeah, I believe that about Rootless Tree being similar to 9 Crimes. I think when I first heard Rootless Tree, that idea popped into my head- but it got lost as I got used to both songs separately And that's pretty cool if he only learned piano a short while ago. I'll be happy to continue hearing it from him in the future

Yeah, that's me. I just sound kind of like Vanessa Carlton (One reason I like playing her songs so much. That and her piano is pretty easy and still sounds good). And I don't plan on getting an agent or anything like that, it's just a hobby. I don't write any music of my own that I'd like enough to do anything with!
Thank you for all the sweet, flattering comments!! I'm going to listen to cup now, it did not connect to the site yesterday!! Oh, and the echo is Concert Hall (chorus set at like 20-25%) option of an ancient SBLive Media package! |
