Cannonball - New Version

"Cannonball" is single of the week on BBC Radio 2. They have been playing a new, more radio friendly, version of the song. Janice Long played it on her programme today, which you can listen to here. Skip about 40 minutes to hear Cannonball.

This is kinda funny, because someone mentioned to me recently that Virgin have being playing Cannonball a lot, but he said he was shocked when he heard the 'new' version they were playing. It wasn't nearly as good with all the drumming added etc.

I told him it was probably the 'single edit' you get on the Cannonball single, since that is slightly different and has some light drumming added.

So is it that version, or a newer one again? (I can't listen to the stream).

it's a newer one again. the drums are different, it's a bit sped up i think and it might even be different vocals...

i never thought id say it but i dont like it. i love the original cannonball, alot of the sounds u hear in this version are unnecessary. sounds like pop idol/fame acadamygot hold of it. imediately after hearing this new version i had to listen to the original cuz damiens words compliment his music so well and vise versa the connection becomes lost with these slight needless changes. i guess im kinda pissed off cuz radio 2 are calling it record of the week when its not the record we all know its a record re-recorded to suit they're needs. sorry guys but this is the song that made me love the guy tampering with it was needless and i really doubt that was damos choice...... oh does anyone have the instrumental on mp3 avaible to send?

I would have though DR was fully in control of his music and the songs he releases to the radio stations- surely if people like us think his songs are classics exactly how they are he'd be slightly mad to change them??

Funny you guys are discussing all the versions of cannonball.. I just read a post from Damien on his website messageboard about his rather distaste of the remix.

Virgin are playing Cannonball a lot. I've heard it something like 10 times.

over the web or can you get virgin in latvia?? hey, remember you said you'd get bell x1 famous over there, so i'm going to be listening in to latvian radio stations and if i don't hear them you'll be in trouble...

Over the web but I can get it too.

I think it grows on you. It's just that we're so used to the old one that it doesn't sound right... but if you try to listen to it 'for the first time' then it's not bad.
