Considering how many famous people do AMAs constantly, Victoria and the rest of the AMA crew probably aren't going to have any special insight into this one any more than the others. I did an AMA with an artist (not at the reddit HQ) and we were essentially left on our own and I had to explain everything to the artist.

I don't have any groundbreaking questions but I'd love to know:
Where would you like to play a concert that you haven't yet? Where would you like to vacation that you haven't yet? If/when you make another record, do you see yourself doing it with Rick again?* Did you hang out with any of the Sigur Ros boys in Iceland?* What are some of your favorite websites in your downtime? Or if you're not a big computer person, what are some of your favorite ways to unwind in your downtime? Have you ever looked up yourself on youtube to remember how to play a song if you haven't played it in a while? If your music career hadn't taken off, what do you think you'd be doing right now? Any other career path you could have fallen into? *I noticed Patrick asked these, too. Let's upvote them! |

Just read a few questions on reddit and I don't like the directions most of them are taking...
too many questions about Lisa, looks like we want to give him a hard time. As well, the one about Ed Sheeran? He already says he doesn't know him... and Me My Yoke and I being about ecstasy? Or him working with beautiful women? How should he answer to that? I don't want to judge people's questions but just because this is an "Ask Me Anything" stuff it doesn't mean we have to ask anything. There are lots of stupid interviewers on the radio already... and we, the people who have been following him for years, should try and come up with some smart question at least... |

I was just brainstorming glo. Not meaning to offend. Sorry. People weren't really participating so I was trying to get the ball rolling. Stream of consciousness.

Not offending anyone, don't worry I just hope people don't take that direction when asking questions in the AMA thing. Would love for it to be more about music and less about stuff like Lisa, etc.

Didn't really think about it but as for now I'd ask about that benefit album he was recording years ago, and which instruments he thinks could fit his music right now if he toured with a band.
ps. didn't call anyone dumb, anyway |

Glo I totally agree with you. I don't really want to ask him anything about Lisa. Only thing I'm truly curious about that I'd never ask him is "what the hell went down that you had to be such a dick and publicly fire her like that?" But again, he's moved on and we all should, too.

yes, would be interesting to see if the new album he plans to do will be with Rubin again, cos for what I read between the lines, it would be done in Iceland with this Alex alone and no Rubin
Glo, the nature album you mention is this album of collaborations he was working on with Emiliana Torrini and all or something else? would like to know about that to... also would be interesting to ask about Camarillas, if he could elaborate on the song and as I said before, mention What If IŽm Wrong, this needs to be re-recorded and see the light!!!!!!

Oh I didn't realize he knew Alex. Guess I should strike my Sigur Ros question. Gah...I don't know how it would sound, but if Damien Rice and Sigur Ros collaborated together....

Definitely!
Here's my question (well three, actually). It's a bit personal. But then again most interesting questions are. (We can't just ask him for his favourite colour, right? ) not too personal I hope... Your songs are often brutally honest and painful. Is part of the reason that it took you several attempts to finish a new album that it was too hard to constantly relive these painful moments? Did this in someway keep you from moving on from these emotions? And might this also be the reason that some of the darkest songs didn't end up on the new album? |

yes, I remember him saying that he was working on it with friends, musicians and actors etc... and also Joel confirmed that they were recording those songs. I think only The Connoisseur saw the light of day from that, but I wonder what has happened to the rest.

That's really too bad. It's a reddit AMA, it's not an in-person interview. They can literally do this anywhere in the world at any time. Just take one hour out of his day.

Unless he doesn't want to be asked anything and that's the reason he cancelled.

Sometimes they go into the New York offices to do it. That was probably the case since he is in town for the artist den thing. |

I know, I'm just saying it doesn't have to be that. I've run an AMA before for a much larger artist and it's really not that hard. He and an assistant could easily pull it off on the road. But you're right, that timing did seem to line up. I'm sure they'll reschedule at some point. It's not like he's Bill Cosby with a huge fukking elephant in the room. He's been pretty open about all the sh*t that went on in the past.

Gotcha. Who did you run an AMA for, if you don't mind talking about it?

Mario you sound like quite the pessimist on this board.
Another question I just thought of - has he ever explained where he got the city/little children ambient noise from in Older Chests? |

Yes he explained it at the Warsaw show in Brooklyn. He recorded it himself and was quite shy about it because he might look like some perv recording children outside a school in Kildare.
