Dark, dirty & vengeful! Lighter stuff is boring.

I hate stuff like 'o you betrayed me, im gonna be real bitter now, boo hoo',
i have to say, little ricer does it with just enough teeth gritting, writhing bitterness and a wee bit of hollering for good measure

i'm drawn to the darker songs... i prefer songs like volcano, woman like a man, insane, baby sister etc. to amie or cannonball or the blowers daughter for instance, but i wouldn't go so far as to say the "lighter" songs are boring... there's almost always an undercurrent of darkness in damien's music anyway (even songs like childish if you think about it) which is one of the reasons i love his music

i'm a night person i like the dark

I am pretty addicted to Prague and cheers but I loveeeee Blower's Daughter and and Delicate. I agree. Nothing he writes is particularly light....

prague is superb. Fantastic, just where its hidden away on O. Talk about intimacy..

Has my favorate lyrics ' before i even open up my door, before i even look out, im pissing all of my bullets aboooouuuwwwowout'
Beat that James Blunt!

If you listen to the non sung chorus of prague with headphones, and slightly unplug them, you can hear a fantastic guitar solo hidden away in there, beats me why he didnt make it louder.

Depressing, loss, yearning but not in reach, bitter sweet songs. Ones that jerk a tear from your heart because of the hurt. Why? Because that's what I have mostly experienced in my life, mostly the type of songs I write, and what I can connect with most.

i have to say i don't find any of damiens songs depressing.i find a song that tells it like it is and feels real is more comforting and honest than "oh the world is full of lovely people la,la,la, arent we all perfect"

and hell yeah the dark, vengefull, bitchy songs are definatley the ones i love the most.(it didnt take you long,bdpart2,prague,cheers darlin)

and yeah, i find the message in childish is relativley dark...

"i'm so unfaithfull...i wont kiss her but i'll stare her up all night"
"the way i pick you up and then drop you in a heap"
"stormy" "uncareing" "unstable etc"

i always pictured the song forming from a situation where someone you care for lits off all you faults (above) and makes you feel like a piece of sh*t...
and you just ask the person to love you anyway...
but they wont...
so you turn aruong and go f**k you anyway, i may not be perfect but who are you to ask me to change.if a person doesnt love every inch of you as they find you, is there a point in changing?(hence the rumdiddlydum, plus it goes hand in hand with being childish)

(sorry msg longer then intended)

light it is the enlightened darkness. and darkness is where the light hasn't fallen. there's no light without dark, and no dark without light.

all i care is that music is honest. not dark for the sake of rebelion, or sugar coated for popularity. And damo has got it in the bag.

Uno - I haven't heard 'Childish', so my response at present is just to the lyrics, but I do think the mood is quite dark - suggesting self-deprecation and sarcasm as well as flippancy.

That said, regarding something as dark and finding it depressing are two quite different reactions; and I consider all Damien's dark music to be both inspiring and extremely uplifting.

ok. so. first, i'd like to agree that all of damien's music is, in a retrospect, dark. because he writes when he's depressed and needs to get something out; off his chest if you will. (if you don't know what by now where have you been?)
second, i LOVE ALL of damien's music. period endofstory. because i love damien. and yeah, there is always dark in it, no matter what. but that's what i love about it...it's so heart-wrenching, but in such a great way he makes you forget, right along with himself, that the pain has subsided.

does this make any sense? because it did in my head.

and lastly: Arpie, i don't know what it is, but you're getting on my nerves, darlin.
