Default The Donkey Sanctuary

From the Sydney Morning Herald blog:
Generally, reviewers and music industry hangers-on get a free seat at the gigs of touring artists. But not the Irish crooner Damien Rice, who played the Enmore Theatre last week and whose songs some will remember from the film Closer. Rice requested that all "guest listers" pay $10 to the charity of his choice, a donkey sanctuary in south-west Ireland. His promoters say it's "a comfortable home for over 600 donkeys which have been mistreated, neglected or simply retired from work. For many donkeys it is the first time in their lives that they have felt loving hands and heard quiet voices. Since opening in 1988 over 2000 animals have been taken in and cared for. No donkey will ever be refused." Some VIPs got angry and refused to be gouged, donkeys or no donkeys. Only in the music industry

This is the donkey sanctuary's website. I think that some proceeds at Damien's Big Tree stage at the Electric Picnic last year also went to the donkey sanctuary.

um i think it's just you..

that's an interesting charity, i've never heard of a donkey sanctuary before.. though folks have them for exotic animals alot here in the US because people adopt them and then can't handle the care requirements

as a former humane society worker i approve

Yeah it's fittingly ironic that asses should further bring out the ass-hole in such people.

That said, the pic of the sanctuary manager with his pets on the front page of the site is rather unfortunately posed. This is how rumors spread.

We've had something similar in Catalonia, Spain. They're trying to 'save' the Catalan Donkey from extinction. They even had these Donkey stickers that everybody was putting in the car...
