Thumbs up Turin Brakes

Hey, has anyone heard of a band called Turin Brakes? They're bloody amazing! They and Damien are in a league of their own me thinks. I think their website is
www.turinbrakes.com

(original! lol)

Seriously though, there's 2 of em and they're great. 2 albums produced so far: The Optomist LP and Ether Song. Both are class records. I'm pretty sure you can listen to their music on the site. If so listen to PAINKILLER - one of their best records in my opinion, and the one that got me hooked!

Seriously that song is amazing. 'Long Distance'. 'Ether Song', 'Feeling Oblivion' and 'Mind Over Money' other good uns; although they are one of those groups who produce albums where every single track is amazing! Fantastic songwriting skills too....sorry to go on.

Just wanted to see if there were any fellow fans out there...if not, try 'em and let me know what ya think!

Other stuff I like is the usual....Bloc Party, The Killers, Placebo, Coldplay, Fightstar and a dude called Steve Elliott. He's another story tho....

(steve elliott!)

Edit: hey guys, i figured I might as well be really practical and just post direct links to TB videos (which are as good as the songs!!). nb: these are broadband windows media:

Painkiller Video

Long Distance Video

Mind Over Money Video

Average Man Video

5 Mile (These Are The Days)

72 Video

Underdog (Save me)

It's interesting that Painkiller is not well liked amongst the TB community; I can understand that the lyrics are I suppose, not as 'deep'. But the guitar riff I think is, although tres simple, damn catchy and really upbeat! Its a good song to bop along too, I suppose its a bit of light relief to what others would describe as their more 'depressing' stuff. I like it anyhow. Would bloody to see em live though. Where they really great as I'd expect them to be? Can't wait for JackInABox....

I've only really listened to "Underdog (Save Me)" courtesy of the second volume of "Acoustic" (Can i really call it that?) I have "The Optomist LP" but haven't really listened to it. I'll give it a go!

Yeah a lot of people seem to like The Optomist better than Ether Song - I personally like 'em both so tis all good. But apparently the second one's a lot less upbeat, but I wouldn't say that all - as Rosey said before she thinks 'Painkiller' is quite poppy, so I dunno...each to their own. But yeah, I agree Angela, The Optomist is great! lol. Glad you enjoyed the linked videos!

I just think the first one will stand the test of time much better. Let's discuss this in 10 years.

Add to those Steve Elliott, KT Tunstall, FC Kahuna, Josh Ritter, Billy Talent etc....my friends have absolutely NO idea who any of them are!!! Makes me laugh! Why is it that non-mainstream music is always the best, eh?
