Heres a small sample of some that I like.... 'Cold Water surrounds me now...and all I've got is your hand....Lord, can you hear me now? Or am I lost?' (Damien Rice 'Cold Water') 'I was other peoples children....I could always be sent home...In front of someone elses blue screen, for someone else's show' (Bell x1 'Alphabet Soup') And my all time favourite...short and sweet 'We were but stones......You're light made us stars' (Pearl Jam 'Light Years')

glad to be of service! I know exactly what you mean! century ends and flesh in particular feel so bloody personal and raw, i love them like almost nothing else in my music collection! there something about his voice back then that just...oh i cant even explain it, it was just so....imperfect! i adore it like that. it sounded so great with the lyrics he was singing. i too have abandonned old dave for a little while in search of other greats like himself. every now and then i sneek one of his cd's into the old cd player and listen in awe! that song in particular is simply genius. My favourite song ever! every line is lyrical perfection in my opinion and I would pay alot of money to see him sing it live, but alas he hasnt performed it for a number of years so i understand maybe one day, when im rich and famous and i hire david to play my birthday bash, ill have a little request but until then i suppose ill have to make do with his CD's (not a bad substitute really) good to see a fellow DG fan on the board |

i follow you in all the things you said up therethat voice... have you heard him sing the everley bros. tune 'let it be me'? (it's on the 'up to a point' live dvd). every time i hear that one i am so amazed at how he can make an old pop song like that, with lyrics that aren't all that 'deep', so to speak; how he can make that stand out as something so shining and beautiful! chills every time.... yes, would be nice if he performed some more of his old songs at his - concerts. and i'd REALLY love it if he'd go a little 'acoustic', like damien. - hey, can i sneak in at that future birthday party you mention..?

yeah i have heard 'let it be me' I managed to find it on an mp3 online, as well as it being on my point DVD. I agree, I've heard the original and he totally transformed it into something much more beutiful and meaningful and deep. I still havent seen DG live but next time he's in my neck of the wood I'm there, front row centre! anyone gets that seat before me will be in for a good kicking you are certainly welcome to my future 'best ever' birthday party , but i expect a present in return...i like ferrari's...thats a fair trade i think |

I just love the lyrics in Bright Eye's "Bowl of Oranges"
especially at the end where he says: <br style="font-weight: bold;"> But if the world could remain within a frame</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> Like a painting on a wall</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> Then I think we'd see the beauty</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> And stand staring in awe</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> At our still lives posed</span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> Like a bowl of oranges </span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> Like a story told </span><br style="font-weight: bold;"> By the fault lines and the soil. </span> i think that's true. there's so much pain in this world, but if all of life was captured inside a single painting, hanging on a wall, i think it would be the most beautiful thing anyone could ever see. yaknow? so much of Bright Eyes stuff is depressing, but that lyric, and the song, and the way he sings it, is just so hopeful and lovely. </span> |

hes a great writer...extremely talented and creative. oberst deserves all the credit he deserves. Michael Stipe of REM was recently asked who would you love to play with...he names a few bands or artists and one of them was bright eyes.the others mentioned were so called "legendary" artists...and then the young conor oberst its hard for me to proclaim a favorite song lyric, because there is so much music...so much listening...so many moods...so many interpretations...but for the sake of participating ill just go with one i like at the moment elliott smith "find somebeautiful placeto get lost"

I cannot agree more with the previous comments on David Gray's 'A Century Ends'fantastic Here are some personal favourites: I must be an acrobat, to talk like this and act like that - U2 My songs don't know that I exist, and though I gave them life it is, a friendship that will never grow, my songs are friends I'll never know - Mic Christopher I didn't say it from my heart, I said it from my most instinctive, defensive part - Nina Hynes I'm still waiting for the whiskey to whisk me away, I'm still waiting for the ash tray to lead me astray - Josh Ritter If you lived here in my place would you eat off my plate, or throw it aside and curse your ugly fate - The Unbelieveable Truth My God, hope your on call, 'cause I may be in danger of crashing before I get to fall - Gemma Hayes this is not sex and the city, it's just lonliness and high heels - these are not tales of the city they 're just compromised i-deals - The Tycho Brahe

Oh... One of my favourite ever songs is the Sunflowers one by BellX1. I forget the proper title. Its just heartbreakingly lovely. Lyrics...man, thats hard 'Where do you go when you're lonely, where do you go when you're blue, where do you go when you're lonely, I'll follow you...' Ryan Adams, 'Stars go Blue' '...the first time that I saw, your head round the door, and mine stopped working...' Damien Rice 'i remember' 'Leaving New York never easy, I saw the lights fading down' REM 'Leaving New York' (Have no idea why I like this so much. It just sticks) 'Just another holy ghost, playing on my radio...' Jesse Malin 'Holy Ghost' I could go on all day. |

My favourite song is definately Dream Brother by Jeff Buckley, I think its amazing... Can't think of my favourite lyric off the top of my head, but I really like this line from Tom Mcrae's The Boy with the Bubblegun: So forgive me,forgive me, For I am born to be what I must be |

It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder. It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her. It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter. It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever. -Jeff Buckley, Lover, You Should've Come Over
