actually, this song has helped me through some very difficoult times. many of dave's songs has. in fact, i'm not entirely sure i'd be alive without his songs. i'd forgotten about this for a while, because i have been exploring new music - thanks for reminding me of 'old' dave, really! think i need to listen to the 'flesh' and 'a century ends' albums right now....[img]smileys/smiley23.gif[/img]

I know exactly what you mean! century ends and flesh in particular feel so bloody personal and raw, i love them like almost nothing else in my music collection! there something about his voice back then that just...oh i cant even explain it, it was just so....imperfect! i adore it like that. it sounded so great with the lyrics he was singing.


i too have abandonned old dave for a little while in search of other greats like himself. every now and then i sneek one of his cd's into the old cd player and listen in awe! [img]smileys/smiley36.gif[/img]


that song in particular is simply genius. My favourite song ever! every line is lyrical perfection in my opinion and I would pay alot of money to see him sing it live, but alas he hasnt performed it for a number of years so i understand [img]smileys/smiley19.gif[/img]


maybe one day, when im rich and famous and i hire david to play my birthday bash, ill have a little request [img]smileys/smiley1.gif[/img]but until then i suppose ill have to make do with his CD's (not a bad substitute really)

i follow you in all the things you said up there[img]smileys/smiley20.gif[/img]that voice... have you heard him sing the everley bros. tune 'let it be me'? (it's on the 'up to a point' live dvd). every time i hear that one i am so amazed at how he can make an old pop song like that, with lyrics that aren't all that 'deep', so to speak; how he can make that stand out as something so shining and beautiful! [img]smileys/smiley1.gif[/img]chills every time....


yes, would be nice if he performed some more of his old songs at his - concerts. and i'd REALLY love it if he'd go a little 'acoustic', like damien.

yeah i have heard 'let it be me' I managed to find it on an mp3 online, as well as it being on my point DVD. I agree, I've heard the original and he totally transformed it into something much more beutiful and meaningful and deep.


I still havent seen DG live [img]smileys/smiley19.gif[/img]but next time he's in my neck of the wood I'm there, front row centre! anyone gets that seat before me will be in for a good kicking [img]smileys/smiley36.gif[/img]

hes a great writer...extremely talented and creative. oberst deserves all the credit he deserves. Michael Stipe of REM was recently asked who would you love to play with...he names a few bands or artists and one of them was bright eyes.the others mentioned were so called "legendary" artists...and then the young conor oberst
