Do you think it would be a good idea if i set up an Eskimo Friends Campaigns section in the forum? I was thinking that once a week I would put up the name of a radio programme somewhere in the world that we could all write to and ask the dj to play damien rice. then we could listen in online until he plays him. and each week we could pick a new place where damien isn't played very often. i have an image in my head of some crazy australian dj getting lots of e-mails from eskimo friends all over the world asking him to play somebody he's never heard of...
what do you think? |

As long as it doesn't cost us anything I'm sure we'll all join in!
Will we get extra points if he mentions one of us (or the site) by name? |

Well, my question was more aimed at stirring your imaginative faculties, but if no one wants to play the game (thank you, Donsie!)...

I like the idea, Emmett!
They rarely play Damien here in Minneapolis... I stay away from the radio, it is all crap. That is one thing I am looking foreward to when I move, good radio for a change!

Good idea! I'd be up for that. Think between us all that we could come up with a different name. Though there is nothing wrong with EskimoFriends.

haha...
okay so we need more creativity now... help me find some good radio programs in different parts of the world that would be good to e-mail. they have to be available to hear online - and even better if they had their playlist available online, or archive their shows. funny djs with strange accents are especially welcome. i was listening to triple j radio in australia and that sounded really good, but i can't pick a show. and i was thinking of the jonathon ross show on bbc radio 2. gemm, can you recommend a program in minneapolis? anyone else have a local station that we could write to one week? |

There are only two "alternative" stations here that would fit in with Damien's music. Only one of which that can be listened to online. But it doesn't have completely accurate playlists. All I know is that I have never heard Damien once on any station here.
Cities97 requires Windows Media Player 5.5 or higher to listen online. My media player doesn't work anymore however. I am not sure which program would work for our "project". There aren't very many options for Minneapolis! We get limited released films, but no good radio! I stay away from it completely! The other option would be KDWB which is a top 40 station. They are good with requests, and keeping a playlist. The playlist is only a general playlist. But if we get them to play Damien enough, than it might just make it on. I know that there is somehow it can be listened to online, but I haven't figured it out yet... Once I do, I will update you all. I wrote an email to one of the dj's that I talk to every now and then. Hopefully they will give me a response by tomorrow!Edited by: gemm

In fact, Triple J is as important to a career in Australia as Nic Harcourt of KCRW is to an US career, so I suggest you take your time finding the right person there. |

Well, KDWB was a bust, they don't stream on the internet anymore...
If we were to do Minneapolis, Cities97 is the only option... They need some serious help with the music they play here, it is sad really. I'll check out some places in Boise too, since that will be my new home city in a matter of weeks.

Okay, I found out a nice little tidbit of information...
Most of the radio stations in the US that used to provide live streams, are no longer doing so. There is a lawsuit or something that is raining on our parade here. Some of the "artists" are upset about thier music bladdy, blah, blah... Anyways, those jack holes want more money. So they want to make stations pay more to put thier music on a live internet steam. I highly doubt we are going to have much success with this project in the US... There is an alternative idea here... We have a whole lot of member across the states, right? Well, we could all make the requests via eMail, and check the playlists. We would have to put an eskimo friend to work in a particular city...Listening in on the radio as much as possible. This idea has hit it's first snag, but I am sure we can think of something! As for the team name... The only thing I can think of, and a stupid one at that, is "Wild Rice Team/group". Like the food kind of... Stupid... I shouldn't have put that!
