Good covers of Damien Rice songs from well established artists
Forgot about this one. This is the only good cover I have ever heard. Does Glen ever cover Damo??? I didn't want to offend by associating the amazing Seu Jorge with Xtina so I gave it its own thread Last edited by Shillelagh; 12-04-2012 at 10:21 PM. |

^not sure who's that girl but didn't you say "well established artists"
actually, in regards to the Brazilian version... the other day I was at a bar and they were playing a CD of Brazilian music and then they played the Brazilian version of The Blower's Daughter but it was Seu Jorge solo, without that Ana Carolina woman... and it was very nice, sure it's the first time I've heard it... and I checked online and on YT but cannot find it anywhere, there's always the duet version but never the solo Seu Jorge version... does anyone have it?

oh and what do you all think of the version of The Blower's Daughter that Angus Stone (from Angus & Julia Stone) did recently? We were talking about it on the Italian forum but not sure if it was posted here... He did it for Guiness Australia, but personally I think it sucked, he sung it like if he was a Bob Dylan impersonator, wrong wrong wrong, will try and find a link

Yes angus sucked. So much potential there and he thinks he's a beat. I'd love to hear the solo seu Jorge stuff too if anyone has it |

This isn't bad at all. Kinda has a Jeff Buckley quiver to his voice. Last edited by Shillelagh; 01-24-2013 at 06:11 AM. |

I don't particularly like Brandie Carlile but I guess she is established. |

Well, I fuggin' love Brandi Carlile(especially her brilliant first two albums) and she's a perfect female counterpart for covering Damo since she has the same kind of raw, heartrending passionate yet vulnerable singing style he does. Apart from her and the always great Seu, though, I can't see how anyone else on this thread is even remotely an established artist.
For example, this Hwang guy has a decent voice but who has actually heard of his band? Same goes for the others (that Aaron guy was amazing but has like one hundred views) except, sorry, Marti but I just really wanted to punch that insanely annoying Keaton guy. Whispered half-talking in a "baby voice" (and out of tune yet!) does not constitute singing in my book unless maybe you are Marilyn Monroe. I hope to Christ he doesn't pull that crap in all his "songs". I remember Lightbody from Snow Patrol did a BD cover long ago but it wasn't good so that really wouldn't count either as does the lame Idol guy. I don't think anyone answered the question about whether Glen has covered Damo yet but there's a rare example of a true star who could also actually do him justice.

^poor Keaton Henson, he's my new favourite singer/songwriter but I guess his lyrics are his forte rather than his voice... but I thought it was a nice coincidence that he did a Damo cover!!

I saw hwang on Conan a little bit back. Doesn't that count as making it?
Also the crane wives are known around the Midwest. What I meant by established was that they're not just covering him on the family webcam. Except for cannonballs up there I consider all of these actual artists with varying degrees of establishment. Last edited by Shillelagh; 01-29-2013 at 07:09 AM. |

I guess maybe "well established" to me means they are known in more than just a certain region. For example, Vanity Crash are beloved in Cleveland/Akron(and some Columbus/Cincy/Pittsburgh/Detroit/Indianapolis/Louisville/Buffalo) bars and even open when major bands come to town but I don't expect anyone to know them here in NYC unless I've introduced them myself. Also, to be fair, you did accidentally type "Crave Wives" the first time which definitely didn't ring a bell whereas "Crane" vaguely could if only due to "The Decemberists" album title.
To answer about Conan: often those folks are getting their first national exposure so I'd probably say they could be considered "upcoming artists" or even perhaps "breaking" but when that's the case, they certainly haven't already established themselves yet at that point. Marti, that makes far more sense now. I'll check out his lyrics and hope someone who actually does sing covered him to see if I like the songs themselves.

"So you know I didn't write that little ending part, right? Although I wish I did. I'm such a fan of him" COLLABORATE! edit: here's another better quality video from a couple of days ago. Delicate starts at 4.10

I don't know if she's "well established" or not but I just discovered Hannah Grace and I was browsing her soundcloud page and found this:

now sure how popular LP is... she's big in Europe right now and many hint at her as the next big thing for 2017... she did cover Cannonball recently on tour...

I usually don't like heavy vibrato but she does it very well and has a nice voice. Thanks for keeping this thread going. I wish there were more professional covers of his work.

Rachel is the perfect female voice and energy to cover Damien. That was terrific.
