Default bell X1 version of "Never"

OK, on irishmusiccentral they posted a video of the song Never from Bell X1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-WND...eature=g-all-u

this I Never hear before, seems it was recorded 'later' IMO....so maybe Paul Noonan did write it afterall...but this is interesting...their has been the debate for many years who wrote this song..i always thought it was Damien...and he does indeed sing it on their studio version from 1996 here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7F1tu6hsGI

someone please explain this!! and 'SPAMLET', I want comments from you!

the lyrics sound very Damien-esque to me

I always felt Never to be fairly obviously Noonan-esque. The tune and musical style is definitely not Damien's and the lyrics have quite a few signature Noonan quirks, especially in lines like "This plan of mine is oh so very lame" and "These empty metaphors
They're all in vain".

Also, Bell X1 took over the song after the split, why would they continue singing a song that wasn't theirs so frequently?

why? well they didnt...they changed the name of the song and some lyrics...so its a 'different' song ....

why would Damien sing the studio version of a song Noonan wrote..they all sang songs they wrote...Noonan sang Ophelia, cuz he wrote it, Dave garety even sang a song from one he wrote

There hasn't really. There are plenty of interviews with Paul out there talking about writing it, and from what I remember even one from Damien (in Q maybe?) talking about how it was one of his favourite songs since he first heard Paul play it.

First off there is no studio version out there, the 96 version is from a radio session. Secondly they didn't always sing the songs they wrote... Dave wrote The Orchard for example.

interesting...well cant argue now , would love to see these interviews.......so I guess this clarifiys the long debate....as their has been debates indeeed among many fans, especially being damien sang it and it is so similar to damien chord progressions, although i understand they are very common...I also thought Noonan sang orchard

by studio version I meant 'recording' ...it just seems odd that damien would sing this if Paul wrote it but i not debating u

damien did sing this live in 2004 i believe, so he was 'covering' a Bell X1 song which is odd

There have always been remarks that the chord progression is very similar to Cold Water and then resurfaced again with Sleep Don't Weep.

I like the live version with Gemma Hayes, where Damien and Paul both sing. I always imagined they were both showing off a little for her. ;-) Plus Damien goes into You Were Always On My Mind (Willie Nelson) at the end, thought that was a great segue, melody wise. (Similar chord progression)

i love this song! i feel in love with gemma´s voice when i first listened! i personally thing damien add something personal to paul´s original song... also, i prefer the end of "never" to "eve the apple of my eye".

i was hooked by this thread, so i took O and Music in Mouth and i read the credits, hehe... and they both thanks to each other and both thanks to gemma as well

I didnt know they 'thanked' each other....nor did I know paul was doing vocals somewhere in that version with Gemma

I must admit Bell X1 did a good job with Never, as Eve is a prettyy decent song and the eve version is better IMo

Wow, Sis! I have loved that song for a very long time and that is the first time in a long while that it gave me (as Glen says) a musical orgasm. Chills! thank you
