i'm a bit afraid to admit this to myself, but i prefer the jazz standard interpretation better than his own work this year. just more emotional, stronger to me. esp. damien's vocals on it are phenomenal.

they are all great! that's kind of a tough choice because they're all so different... i have to go with cross-eyed bear though (the low/1st version) i absolutely love it
i can't believe cille is voting for a jazz standard! thought you were in rebellion from your parents dragging you to all those jazz gigs as a teenager cecilie but yeah his voice on that track is amazing... |

I have to say, I have heard Unplayed Piano, and wasn't HUGE on it. I also havn't herad the other two. The most recent new song I've heard is Blower's Daughter PT 2 (which I adore), can I vote that one? :-D

I vote "Unplayed Piano" because it's the only newly (co) written Damo song in the group. Don't get me wrong I've always adored "Jewellery Box" and felt it was unjustly practically unknown so I'm extremely glad he re-recorded it but putting a new name on it doesn't make it new.
"Leave", on the other paw, has some fantastic lines in it and starts out strong but feels very unfinished to me. I'll attribute that end part to Glen since I remain greatly unimpressed by the Frames (especially lyrically).

Speaking of new releases by Damien, has anyone heard his studio version of 'When Doves Cry'. It was released in Australia on the 15th of May.

Haven't heard it but I believe it was just a radio performance.

I think it was some radio station that released a cd of performances recorded in their studios live on air, one of which was Damien doing "When Doves Cry"

jewelery box is now cross eyed bear... its a beautiful song and he gives it alot more justice and conviction in my opinion than the juniper version

yeah!
what he ^ said i've got to admit i'm not crazy about lisa's voice on don't explain and cross-eyed bear though... kind of wish damien had sung alone on those tracks... *runs and hides* unplayed piano seems to work better for her, maybe because she co-wrote it? the melody sounds like lisa might have come up with it to me... |

It's hard for me to pick now that you mention the fact that he didn't write Don't Explain...so I would say musically I like Don't Explain better. Also because vocally, I like both Damien and Lisa's voice. Someone mentioned not liking Lisa, and it's just personal taste but I feel it's more personal, and it gets me when Lisa sings, "oh yeah baby" or somehting along those lines, I'm too lazy to look it up and when Damien sings, "hush now"... that part hits me.
Unplayed Piano hits me on a different note....(no pun intended?... I'm a loser ) knowing the cause of the song and who it's for hits home a little more. And as Spamlet brings forth the question of Cross Eyed Bear , should I disregard it because it's not new...because it is my favorite sounding but I think Spamlet is correct and that I can't consider it as a vote even though it was recorded in 2005. |

Meh. It pisses me off when randomers come along and ask for songs when they are readily (and might I add legally) available, without bothering their arse to look for it themselves. "Leave" was forgivable even though there was an entire thread on it. But wasn't trying to be unfriendly ffs

^^ So you think it's ok people should just ask for songs recorded for charity without donating to that charity? I don't have a problem with people looking for unreleased stuff but when they just can't be arsed paying for readily available stuff....
