sorry to see you go. the post was of images of people who had been killed in a war, i had to remove them because we have some very young people who use this site and i don't think it's fair to subject them to those horrible images without a warning. i don't think it's fair to anyone actually, and it breaks the rules of the forum.

fair enough that you have rules, but young people cant be wrapped up in cotton wool for all their lives. do you not think if they saw those disturbing images, that they may realise the true cost of war and try work against it as they grow older!??!

I think they'd have nightmares and grow into disturbed individuals. They will see images like that when they are older and able to handle it. They can't change the world if they are scared of it and think it is normal for that to happen.

i don't think it's up to me to decide for them, that's their parents job. but allowing them to stumble onto a link like that is wreckless i think. it's a family site. i don't think i'm wrapping anyone up in cotton wool.

i know i have some much younger cousins who visit this site. we've had lots and lots of users who are very young on here.

and it's not fair on adults either, to force them to see images like that. i know i didn't appreciate it. you have to be prepared for something like that, and your subject line definitely didn't do that.

but it's your decision to leave and i respect that, so goodbye

No one's mentioned the fact that this is a Damien Rice fansite. If you are leaving over some images being deleted... what can anyone say but fair enough. The problem lies with yourself.

you'd 'stumble' onto wierd pics etc anywhere. its only 9pm but lots of kids would still be up and could be watching something 'not suitable'. and they could be flicking about the tv any time of the day and see fightling/death etc on the news. can you just not remove the offending word/pic etc and not have to taint someones right to free speech without such a 'heavy' presence of forboding. yes yes, there is free speech and then there is "free" speech. its a catch 22 to be honest. i dont want to see young kids upset.....but someone who can use a computer with a bit of sense is old enough to know right from wrong, good from evil. it is up to parents to teach their kids about the world and life. the internet isnt a tool for reality. as someone mentioned, its up to their parents to decide about what a child sees. that includes what they learn from life and how they are brought up. seeing a picture/ reading ** words isnt going to turn one child in a second Hitler over night. a bit of cop on and you can see that easily.

If a kid watches something on tv after 9pm... that's not the administrator of this site's responsability. When he starts getting complaints from parents over something they've seen on a mainly music forum that they believed was open to all ages... then it's his responsability. You talk about you're right of speech. What about the Emmett's right as the admin to censor what he feels needs to be censored and/or deleted. There are rules... respect them.

This is a site which doesn't allow it. Does it matter that children can access worse material if they try? I didn't see the picture. but if the factor of not being alloud to post it means you don't want to take advantage of anything else this site has to offer, by leaving. Then that's your decision, i suppose. But i can't imagine u starting this post without the intention of making a point against the sensorship. "bye" indeed; as if.

If i had done it. i just would have appoligised. Don't forget stuff like netnanny, by the way, which automatically filter sites with swearing and sexual or violent imagery. That would make the site inaccessable to a load of people with rather pushy parents. Just because you don't believe violent imagery will damage children, it doesn't mean that their parents concur.

I don't know why ur image was relevant either, if ur aiming to shock, then fair play, but maybe you should be aware that this kind of reaction can usually be expected. If it was the only way of discribing a point u were trying to make, you could have offered to show it in a PM for anyone who requested it.

I get that u respect it. But if you just can't stand to be in a place where you can't do what you want and say what you want, i think that's bit of a tragic situation. I liked having you arround, so it's a shame you can't bear it because of a trivial reason.

Edit: I'm with ya tj. Surely emmett has a right to target whoever he wants? A specialist library has a right to target people who work in quiet situations and impose rules about keeping the noise down. If you run in there with a boomblaster saying it helps u concentrate. you'd be pretty thankful if the librarian merely got you to switch it off, and let you stay. Surely? It's a bit of a shame if you can't bear to go get ur specialist books, without ur boomblaster.

I guess i respect it if u wanna leave also. to each there own, but it's a shame.

it had pictures of dead palestinian girl and destroyed Israeli bus. I can understand why, but hey, I want to be somewhere were I debate big issues! And seriously, I do understand PenguinBoy says this is a site that doesnt allow it. So I respect the deletion of hard stuff and will go somewhere else yes! simple . Topic was "Horrible, shout down those responsible". So some warning yes.

Honestly, no hard feeling!

I agree PenguinBoy!

I barely see where you're coming from alumni. It's difficult to understand why you'd decide to leave over this. If you want to go to a place where you can discuss and debate big issues then thats okay. Although, there's nothing stopping you from discussing and debating big issues here. You don't have to bombard people with horrific images to debate an issue strongly. Words are usually proven to be the better method anyway. If you came on here and described how annoyed and upset you were about this matter I have no doubt that it would never have been deleted.

If these pictures are as terrible to look at as they seem then I can tell you now that you'll have a hard time finding any respectable message board, website or forum that will find them acceptable to public viewing.

Flashing images are a tool used by the weak... just look at a tabloid paper. The person who can say just as much with words is likely to be the stronger person with the stronger feelings. There's loads of ways in which you can vent on this forum... more ways than most other forums. You have the lyrics page and you have an 'everything else' section. It's not restricted to just Damien Rice which it could easily have been.

However, I do respect your decision...

I quoted you here PenguinBoy because it is just that simple. This is a site which doesn't allow it. There really is no need for debate and frankly, leaving this site for such a reason ( don't lose sight of Damien Rice!!). And, oh yeah... why not just apologize??

ami, people just get annoyed with you, because you always try to counter what everyone else is saying. you try to have the opinion that is different. it doesn't bother me. just trying to help you see their side. but seriously... HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEING A FAMILY SITE AMI? if you don't like the values the the administration is trying to keep in play then just stick to your DR.com

not trying to target you, but you get mad at others for telling you to stop when you are annoyed that someone got in trouble for breaking the rules.

Let me get one thing straight before I continue. Is Alumni and Ami the same person using different accounts?

I'm not trying to come up with some theory as to why they are... it just seemed that way that's all. I just thought they were the same person and everyone knew that... but if they're not, they're not.

It's just it seems to me that ami is sticking up for alumini just for the sake of it. All I did was try to help both of them see some sense. Ami... I don't understand why you took a disrespectful attitude with me when I asked you to have respect for the rules. A little bit of a contradiction don't you think? I could have easily came on here and said 'You're stupid. Shut up.' I didn't... I simply explained to you what I thought... respectfully. So try not to talk to me like you are above me with your 'don't dares' and your blatant sarcasm.

Default Don't go alumni

don't go alumni, even though i dont' always agree with your pov's, i think your posts are very positive to the igloo. i didn't see the pics you posted but i've seen similar ones, unfortunately many people completely ignore they exist or that these things DO happen (mostly people that only watch cnn or foxnews in america, i dunno about anywhere else). but i see emmett's point and i accept it, this is not the place to POST those pictures but maybe this thread will make them curious enough to find out that these kind of thing are happening right now and how much bullsh*t we're being fed by the networks

about ami and alumni being the same person, i doubt it. and even if they were, the 2 alter egos are completely different.

sorry for the misunderstanding. i didn't mean it in the sense that they were the same person pretending to be two different people. the way i was reading the topic it just seemed that it was the same person using two different accounts at different times innocently. that's all.

it's just that annoying thing that 'alumni' already had a 'good-bye-thread' once. and i didn't really miss him/her, i have to say quite frankly. the way of having a conversation or a debate was just not my taste.

so, i kinda have to agree with miss pink. it just gets annoying and has nothing of a 'good debate' anymore for me... nothing against your opinion, boy! it's just being repeated over and over again.

ami, I don't know if you already know that but a simple newspaper/news mag consisting of journalists with some dignity wouldn't print horrible war pictures with corpses and stuff. The rules say no. And yet there are still blood nuts "reporter" arseholes who print/air this sh*t just so they can make more money from the furore. Is it a twist of reality or a revealing of reality if we hide these pictures? I think no.

Surely, alumni didn't intend to set up furore with his pics. But the board rules say no and i think for a good reason.

I agree Hendrik. I still don't understand why someone would leave over something so simple and obvious.
