Default ONE favourite song

this thread will more than likely flop due to frustration from participants but if you had to have ONE favourite song and ONE ONLY, what would it be?

I agree. I love that song!

Though if hard pressed, I could say with certainty that my favorite song would be by Simon and Garfunkel. Probably "America."

Um...past while its been Ryan Adams 'I see Monsters'

Even though the first time I heard it I was on the verge of killing the man, it still took me to pieces.

mmm, probably New Slang(when you notice the stripes) by the Shins for everything it means and reminds me of. It's so hard to think of just one though!

Imagine , the greatest song ever written. When I die, I just want the word Imagine on my tombstone, nothing else.

the song itself is perfect i feel, but i can't feel anything but contempt for the other instruments that john isn't playing... it would have been better if he was on his own, it would have given the song more space.

i'm so pleased to hear people mentioning Jeff Buckley, songs like 'Satisfied Mind' 'Lover you should have come over' 'forget her' and obviously 'hallelujah' are fantastic.

but as others have already said, picking a single song is far too difficult, so instead i'll just list a few great ones that spring to mind (in no particular order)

1. Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
2. Bob Dylan - I Shall be released
3. Santana - Samba Pa Ti
4. Coldplay - Swallowed in the sea
5. Damien Rice - Older Chests
6. David Gray - Birds without wings
7. The beatles - while my guitar gently weeps
8. Eric Clapton - Tears in heaven
9. Jason Mraz - You and I both (acoustic)
10. Keane - She has no time
11. Neil Young - My my, hey hey
12. Oasis - Live forever
13. Radiohead - Karma Police
14. The Smiths - The boy with the thorn in his side
15. Stereophonics - 1000 trees

bear in mind, these are ones that i can just think of, off the top of my head

Of course what I meant to say is one of the songs that means the most to me is swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits

"Now some say he's doing the obituary mambo
Now some say that he's hanging on the wall
Perhaps this yarn's the only thing that holds this man together
Some say he was never here at all"
