Well couple of weeks ago I bought some tickets for Peter Gabriel and arranged the travel from UK to see the show at the arena in Verona in May.

Next day I said, it will be just our luck that Damien Rice will announce some dates now. Next year will be 20 years since we first saw him live at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth.

Last time we saw Damien was in Mallorca in 2018. So now it's going to be do we go for Hammersmith Odeon (Eventim Appollo) where we saw the first UK night of 9 Crimes or a longer trek up to Manchester Apollo, only been there once many years ago for Blue Oyster Cult.

Or dig deep and go abroad again to one of the weekend shows to Antwerp, Berlin or Zagreb?

Fingers crossed I will get some tickets when they go on sale next week.

Anybody know if here are any pre-sale links for these dates.

damienrice.com has sent them previously, but never got a notification about the dates from them this time

Well, half past 5 tonight and an email from DR.com asking to confirm staying subscribed, as additional 2023 tour dates will be announced.

Looks like all but Paris are sold out on the original dates that went on sale today, plus a second date was added in Amsterdam.

So far he has confirmed that future tour dates are coming for Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Columbia, Brazil, and additional South American dates.

He has not responded to one of the very many people asking if the USA or North America will see dates. It kinda feel like he is not planning a US tour.

Well a good 80 mile trip to Hammersmith yesterday. We arrived mid-afternoon and had a nice afternoon around Barnes, then back to the Airbnb in Castelnau Road. Easy 20 min walk over the bridge and no real queue at about 19:30, pic attached and straight up to the seats.

Silvia the support act was good, several different styles and languages and quite funny when she said something in English and then immediately realised it wasn't what she meant and a Spanish version of Hallelujah at the end of her set was great.

Last time I saw Damien was in Mallorca in 2018 and last time at Hammersmith was for 9 Crimes tour, on the bust up with Lisa night which nobody knew about at the time. Last night was the first time I've ever been back to see him at a previous visited venue.

Great set last night, lots of favourites, Cheers Darlin, The Professor, Woman Like a Man, Delicate, including my favourite Aime, which he has done on every one of the 8 shows since seeing him for the first time at the Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth in 2003. The sing along bit with Volcano, 9 Crimes duet with Silvia, a brilliant version of Astronaut which even had a light show with it, Eskimo started the encores. The oft promised new album/songs was mentioned, he said Sylvia and Jan had been kicking his backside about that and said that it will be coming, but he said that in Majorca 5 years ago, so think it's just watch this space.

The audience behaved themselves and you could hear every word he sang, he was quite funny with the chats/anecdotes between songs, but was quite emotional and lost it a bit just before Blowers Daughter and Sylvia and Jana had to help him on stage.

We all know a lot of things in our lives have changed a lot in many ways over the last few years, but this show was as good as I've seen him and you've all got a good show coming to you.

Now have to make a decision, go to Lake Garda in July, Damien on the 15th and Hozier on the 16th or wait and see if some more UK dates are added for later in the year. It would be a no brainer for July, but already have Peter Gabriel in Verona in May.

If anybody from Damien's "team" read any of these then please include Portsmouth Guildhall if any more UK dates are being planned and please don't play Southampton Guildhall, it's got the worst acoustics of any venue I've been to in the UK.

Where abouts were you at the Apollo?

We were Block 4 Row Y, 31 & 32, one row from the back in the circle. Sound was good, but from that distance he looked like he was only about four or five inches tall! (100mm-125mm)

Didn't think there would be an aftershow in London, weather was a bit damp so that wouldn't have been very good for an acoustic guitar.

Were you in Paris as well?

Any more info on the emotional part before Blower's Daughter? I saw on reddit it had something to do with his tour manager, but the details were scant after that...

It wasn't his tour manager, he'd been talking about how pleased he was that after such a long time without a tour that people remembered who he was (think that was a bit tongue in cheek)and the tour tickets had sold well and the promised new album/songs was mentioned. Then he paused to mention his former manager was in the audience before he got quite emotional and Sylvia and Jana had to help him compose himself on stage.

This what the Telegraph review said about the part before the song. I thought it was Blower, but Telegraph say it was Cannonball.

"He broke down in tears during a no-microphone rendition of Cannonball, one of his best-known songs, because his former manager Bernadette Barrett was in the audience. Without her, he said, he wouldn’t be there; he took some time to compose himself. Yet Rice has been doing this for years, and must have sung Cannonball thousands of times; the moment served to highlight his refreshingly unfiltered openness."
