Default Crosseyed Bear

So apparently this has been available from warchild for about forty minutes now, so far the word 'round the campfire is that it's giving people goosebumps and reminding them why Damien and the band are so likeable. Has anyone heard it or downloaded it? It's not nice having to wait for the cd version.

i don't think it'll be available until 5PM. this is an update from the team who are working on the album:

What have we heard? Well, Kaiser Chiefs' cover of 'Heard It Through The Grapevine' has giving us the broadest smile today, Damien Rice has given us the most goosebumps, Babyshambles have given us a surprise as have Belle & Sebastian. Gorillaz, well, what can we say, seven minutes of sumptiousness, it's a stunner. Razorlight have pulled out all the stops with a huge, swelling, stormer, Radiohead gave us almost as many goosebumps as Damien... Go! Team, wow!

oh my god! its beautiful! so mellow, yet so passionate! damiens singing in his low register in his parts of the song, and i think that lisa actually has more time on the vocal track than damo! she is singing in the lower octave as well. in parts of the song theres this noise in the background... i dont know if its viv on the cello or what... but its this out of tune kind of whine thats just heartbreaking! to me the whole song sounds a bit like grey room, and i absolutely LOVE that song, so, this ones a winner!

This is a VERY old song. It's a Juniper song, which was originally called Jewellery Box. The background music sounded exactly like a musical jewellery box...hence the name. I think Paul used to sing it though, can't remember....

Anyway I loved the original version and I'm digging this version too!

Default Lyrics:

Ok I did a quick write up of the lyrics...they're only slightly different than the Juniper version...it used to be "taller than tall" in the second verse etc. Anyway:

Crosseyed Bear

I broke your doll,
It was cross eyed, that's all,
I only wanted it to help it see straight,
But like a half broken moon,
Sooner than soon,
I was up on your wall,
Smaller than small,
In a half painted frame,
The wood wouldn't stain,
And I hope that reminds you,
Of the part you couldn't change in me,

If you push me I'll fall,
If you pull me I'll drown,
If you're gonna be nailin me down,
I won't rise again

I scratched your car,
Where the bird left a stain,
But I only wanted to help you see straight,
But like a half broken moon,
Sooner than soon,
I was up on your wall,
Smaller than small,
In a half painted frame,
Where the wood wouldn't stain,
And I hope that reminds you,
Of the part you couldn't change in me,

If you push me I'll fall,
If you pull me I'll drown,
If you're gonna be nailin me down,
I won't rise again
I won't rise again

I'm not God, I'm not God,
I love you but I'm not God...

I just wanted to come say this song is incredible!!!! I downloaded this one and Radiohead's "I Want None of This". I'm a huge Radiohead fan and I've got tired of that community saying Damien Rice's track isn't as good. I love Cross-eyes Bear. It has such a warm feeling to it. And the last lines is incredible: I love you but I'm not God.

Truly amazing!

Well I personally have always loved Juniper's "Music Box" (which itself bore quite a striking resemblance to "Sex Change") so I'm glad to see it resurrected again! I like the new title too.

Strumming very much like Eskimo. Really liked the low voice and loved Lisa's bit. Very happy and makes me look forward to the new cd!

It barely sounds like him (at least the voice we're used to hearing him use) but it's great it has a soft jazz piano and great vocals by lisa.

im not that mad on it. lisa sounds like 40, or she smokes about 40 an hour or sth,

damien sounds like his balls have just dropped even further

sorry if i offend any 1, i prefere the origional version

but i suppose it all for a good cause

well i'm offended but only as a 40 year old who smokes 40 a day and still sounds like a little girl (what an odd comment) and aren't someone's balls dropping a sign of maturity? that's a good thing in my opinion. i like damien and lisa singing in the lower register it brings a new mood to their music. i'm intrigued to hear the new album now and what changes may have occurred in damien's overall approach to his music

i've never heard the original version but by and large i prefer damien's solo work over juniper any day, i can see why he wanted out of that. i like the tune but regret downloading it for my own reasons. also i don't hear any piano it sounds like the regular band line-up to me - guitar, bass, cello, soft drums...

I agree, I think its sweet, different but still lovely.. But just wondering, why would you regret downloading? No matter what its something new and its a fantastic cause, right?
