Check this old thread for the lyrics:

http://www.eskimofriends.com/forum/s...ghlight=friend

The lyrics of the song changed from when he played it some time ago in the East Coast to when he played it last year in LA, so it will be interesting to hear what the lyrics are now. Besides in LA, Lisa did half of the song but she forgot the lyrics... Later in Europe Damien did it w/o Lisa but no one taped or paid attention to the lyrics...

The torrent for the whole LA show that included Is that it my friend is/was at bt.etree.org (I think)...

Actually that's not entirely true. Check the Cologne thread. Joefan posted his (unfortunately very distorted) recording there. And:

the "i can scrape the bottom, still touch the sky.." instead of the "prince of the desert" version.. in fact it's almost identical to how i heard it in wisconsin, kazoo bridge and all..
Did I mention that it was the best live performance of a song I have EVER heard?

Sorri Lina, I followed that Cologne thread for a while but not til the end, so I missed the last posts. So it looks like that in Cologne he reverted to the original lyrics!! Wonder what he sang yesterday... I guess we'll find out soon...

By the way unfortunately the link from the Cologne thread is not working anymore... could anyone re-send it pliz?????

Thank you for the recording link. I couldnt check it until I got home from work. That is a pretty amazing version. However if i do say so myself Boston was better. He did a trumpet solo thru his mouth, it was kind of cool.

No need to be sorry, Marti.

Here you go: Click!
But be warned, it gets really distorted after a couple of minutes.

Thanks Lina!! That version is crazy, it's like 9 min long!!!

So far,

Madison'04: lyrics 1 (the bottom, touch the sky)
LA Dec'06: lyrics 2 (the prince, the sand, the letters)
Cologne'07: back to lyrics 1

Boston'07: ... lyrics 2 are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it was even longer. There's an improv ending to it, which lasts another two or three minutes. I didn't think it was worth uploading, though.

I really, really hope he's going to play it again when I see him in July. I just love this song. Both versions.
