Wow, incredible stuff. Really mind blowing. Too many highlights to mention really. Lisa singing Willy. I Remember (where Lisa got a couple of lines the wrong way round!). Damein singing Then Go direct to the audience, no microphone. He has a powerful voice, just filled up the space, was incredible. Seven Nation Army was good, dont think many of the audience expected that. Did a 4 piece encore, got the verses for Accidental Babies the wrong way round.
Was absolutely brilliant |

Sounds like a good night! Mind throwing up the full set list when you get the chance? Any new songs?

I agree Wheels, I think they've changed in a similar way as they did recently with The Professor... that's probably why Lisa went blank on the Perth gig... must be confusing to suddenly sing it differently as you've always done

Well the normal line is "there was wet in your hair, I just stood up and stared" or something like that, but she sang them the wrong way round. I only notice cos I was singing along and got confused
Set list, erm. I really cant remember, it was all a bit of a fantastic blur. Ill comapre to the other set list but the order will be way off. Cannonball Elephant Rootless Tree (piano version) Woman Like a Man Eskimo Coconut Skins Volcano 9 Crimes 7 Nation Army (vivian singing and on the cello. now this was mindblowing) Animals were gone Willy (Lisa was hauntingly good) I Remember Cold Water The Blower's Daughter Accidental Babies (or whatever its called these days) It was a 4 song encore which included Accidental Babies, and Cold Water but cant remember the other 2. It was all slow stuff at the end, Blower's Daughter was half way through. Just fantastic. The crowd loved it and gave a massive standing ovation at the end, which I think took the band by suprise a little bit, but they seemed happy with it Oh and there were 2 songs at the beginning that I didnt recognise, and I'm pretty sure I have everything avaliable on my ipod so I'll be interested to hear them again! I'll try and grab photos and movies off my mate who took a camera. |

Melbourne tonight. Started off a bit weird with Damien kneeling on the ground on his own, with his back to the audience - hunched over singing into the cavity in his guitar. A new song I think.
It's been very hot in Melbourne last few days, and the venue (The Palais) is a fantastic old run down theatre which unfortunately has no air conditioning - so it was a bit warm and stuffy in there. I'd have to say they all looked a tad uncomfortable, and maybe the heat sapped their performance a bit. Lisa's PA thingy broke late in the gig and she couldnt hear herself. With a couple of thousand people in the room @ $74 a head, it might have been an idea to have a spare one handy? Damien and Vivyienne ad-libbed and made a bit of a joke about it while Lisa fumbled around the place trying to sort it out, but to no avail & i don't think she took any further part in the proceedings.. Highlight of the night was the last song, an acoustic solo rendition of The Blower's Daughter. All the lights in the house down, single spotlight on Damo. He was standing there about 10 foot away (thank you internet presale) unplugged from everything, no microphone, no wires - nothing. Singing The Blowers Daughter like he was standing in my front room. He was closer than my TV. Mesmerising. I'm going again tomorrow night |

Melbourne #2. A very different concert to last night. I was impressed by the fact that all his chat to the crowd was all completely different, so he's not just regurgitating the same old guff every night. Good onya Damo.
Highlights: Vivyienne's "Random Man" went down very well tonight. Damien ad-libbed a song on the spot based on a few words thrown out by the audience (purple, fear, eyes were the words IIRC). Amazing to see that Damien can ad-lib a song better than what most people could produce after a year in a recording studio. Oh, and Lisa's black dress. Scha-wing. Lowlights - the clown sitting in front of me whose head was lolling around all night like it was too heavy for his neck to support, requiring my head to imitate the pendulum of a grandfather clock for two and a half hours swaying back and forth constantly in order to look around the big galoot. Damien invited the first "musician" in the audience to touch the stage could sing a song. So some American twat (whose love for himself obviously eclipsed anything Romeo & Juliet could ever offer us) practically high hurdled himself onto the stage like he's been training for a month. He proceeded to bore us for approximately 5 minutes with some awful ****e that no-one wanted to hear, then refused to hand back the guitar when Damien went back on stage and practically had to have it taken off him, then they proceeded to do a cover version of "Stand By Me" together in order to get rid of the prick wthout having to call security. Yawnsome. Highlight - right at the end of The Blower's Daughter he broke into Creep. That was pretty good. Lowlight - Accidental Babies as an encore. Jesus, that song does absolutely nothing for me. Oh and over the two nights and he never played either of my favourite songs (Eskimo & Grey Room). Bastard. Overall a more more relaxed and personable performance tonight. Last night's was rather edgy and a tad wooden by comparison. Verdict - Damien is a very affable, humourous and engaging character in addition to being incredibly talented. Sickening, really. edit/ and good onya for playing for 2.5 hours tonight. don't remember exactly what time it finished up at last night, but it wasn't anywhere near as long i'm sure. i think it may not be ad-libbed..
damien did the color/emotion/body part thing in madison, wisconsin in '04 and played a song called "fear" (informally) and i'm hoping it's the same one! i would love to hear a good recording of it.. he did the same thing in new york in december and brought out red/happy/nose.. it's kind of a special game or theme he does and he rarely does it and it's usually a new song, so lucky people at that gig Last edited by SisterMidnight; 02-21-2007 at 02:50 AM. |

I think Liv was joking. But yes it is big, way too bloody big in my opinion! It's only the bits round the edge that are any good anyway

Well, when a man loves a woman very much . . . Ahem. Lisa sings it with no accompanyment. Her voice just rings out, it is stunningly beautiful. One of my favorites. She also does a version of silent night in the same way. Amazing |
