I finally went out and bought the b-sides. All of the songs are great especially the instrumental of Volcano, but am I the only one who thinks that Moody Mooday sounds terrible? Don't get me wrong,I love Damien's music, but this one sounds like they tried too hard to make it commercial and it doesn't fit well withthe other tracks/...
On another note, I noticed some difference in the lyrics in the Volcano demo. Which ones do you prefer: the one on 'O' or 'B-sides' ?

i think there's a reason why damien plays moody mooday incredibly rarely, it grows on you after a few months... but if i were to hear "O" for the first time tomorrow, and moody mooday was somewhere on it, it probably would take away from the album...
i love the alternative Volcano though, it dosent have the same rhythym as the album version, but i still think that it's quite an innovative idea for a single.

I love all the songs but Im sorry I still think it's a blatent attempt Damo and his record label to take advantage of the fans....and milk them for every penny. Why not put a new track on their.....I used to love Damo and his music, now I just love his music.Edited by: FOSHIZZLE

mabye damo wanted to release it for himself and not the fact that he is expecting everyone to buy it. Remember what he said about O...he said that he would be over the moon to sell 500 or 1000 copies and that should pay for his (and the rest of the bands) life........

yo dawg not sure i see it that way. in fact damo was doin the right by his fans by not suffin the long anticipated cd with known tunes. this was away to clear the pipeline at low cost to his fans. my sense is that this is NOT the highest revenue generating strategy he could have followed. |

no, frankly i am a bit pissed off at damo having released the b-sides, he only has one album for christs sake, and on the strength of those 12 songs he's managed to release six ep's and one live album. For anyone else thats fine, but where's the carefree arty hippie who always seemed more concerned about integrity then pleasing record companies, it's annoying for the people who actually went to the trouble of looking for the original singles to just have the same thing re-hashed at us again with new artwork and a bigger price tag, i've heard that 'the professor' and 'woman like a man' are going to be on the next album anyway... but what's the point, those songs have been released three times each already, and ive paid each time, im pretty sure im not the only one either. It's not that i resent the cost or anything, most people probably don't... its just that when you add all the sales together, someone's making a good bit of money that they perhaps shouldnt be making.
On the other hand i understand his need to put out something that most people havent heard and wont be gone off the shelves within a month, as some sort of replacement for the new album 'cause he's going to australia. Since releasing it before he goes away would be a bit silly, from a touring point of view. I just think that there's been too many things seemingly thrown from DRM onto the shelves, maybe i'm just resentful of a 'B-Sides' after one album... PS. dont ask me why i actually bought the B-Sides, i suppose that's the power of completism. PPS. Even if you're in favour of the B-Sides you'd have to admit that only releasing 8 out of a possible 14 different b-sides is still a bit of a rip off.

in North America, we didn't get 'O' album until the end of last year,
somehow it got pushed back for months. now the B-side is the only other thing up on shelf here, although i haven't seen it in the store yet. so for people who haven't bought any singles or EPs, B-side is a good one to have. we don't have the same starving situation as you irish do, although i totally agree with you. and i'm never a good fan of any sort, i don't collect, so i'll never feel being rippped off. sadly Damien can't decide what to release completely on his own, there is a management who think only the remix would get more people to like Damien, but why can they just play the original version? does it sound that uncomfortable for everybody's ears? i've heard a bit of clip online, that remix does sound bad. if there is another of remix from Damien's song, i'll cry too. |

A thing to keep in mind is that none of the singles have been released in the US. First, the US is not a singles market the way the UK is. People here don't buy singles (as a rule & in the business sense). B-sides is the only album other than O that is locally available in the US, so that people have to no longerbuy the expense import singles. That's also the Reason for the Frames releasing 'The Roads Outgrown' here, which had stuff on it that was previously only available on import here.

true angela, but I think the point that bumpman is making is that because of the fan he is, he went and FOUND the singles, I doubt hes a regular single buyer, Im not, but for the people I really like I make the effort.

maybe it should have just been released in the US only?
cant see any reason why it was released in Ireland.
