I feel bad for the people who lost their lives down in florida. But then again, whatya expect by living down there??...they always get hurricanes so ya gotta be ready for em.

Charley just brought us some rain here in Jersey, nothing major.

I live in Colorado, but 6 of my friends took a trip down there, and they've been in the Baggage Claim of the airport they were supposed to be flying out of for 3 days, and can't fly out for another few days. They're not too scared, but they planned to be out of Florida way before it hit.

Once a storm becomes a tropical storm it gets a name. Storms were first named by a meterologist in Australia who named them after people he did not like. In the United States, hurricanes are named after different people's first names. A list is developed each year by the National Hurricane Center. The names are in alphabetical order. When a storm becomes a tropical storm, it receives a name. It keeps the same name if and when it becomes a hurricane. The storm keeps the name until it is no longer a tropical storm.

i feel horrible for the victims of the hurricane. not only in florida, but in cuba and jamaica and the other islands hit by charley. i can't imagine the loss one must feel when their house is ripped off the ground and destroyed. they are still searching for hundreds of bodies apparently. i dunno... it just makes me feel so helpless and lucky at the same time. there's bad weather all over world. you can't avoid natural disasters for the most part. i guess that's the only waythe survivorscan justify it, by saying "hey, ya know what... i still have my life"

The other thing they do is that if a named storm hits land, particularly if it causes deaths, they retire the name as a mark of respect for those affected. There'll never be another Hurricane Charley.
