Default Cross-Eyed Bear is Lazy-Eyed Bear

Damien is contemplating changing the name of this song. Not really sure why.

I doubt that it would fit the metre...

As I said, it makes no sense at all.

But he referred to it the other day as "Lazy Eyed Bear" and someone asked him about it and he responded "Yeah, I never really decided on the name for that song."

Default Juniper

After the San Diego gig, I asked about why the song name was changed from "Jewelery Box" to "Cross-Eyed Bear". He responded by saying that "Cross-eyed bear" was the original name and that the guys from Juniper didn't so much like the name. Therefore the name changed to "Jewelery Box." Then since going solo, he's changed it back to "Cross-eyed bear."

I don't know how much he'd change up the song, if any at all, if he changes the name. He's played "Cross-eyed bear" so few times that each time it continues to change a bit, in my opinion. I guess this is one of the reasons why Damien doesn't like tapes of unreleased tracks being circulated. It makes it difficult to change songs to his liking without people getting attached to certain versions.

Just out of curiosity, what are people's favorite versions so far?

The Juniper version is good, but I prefer the Warchild version.

Did Damien & Lisa ever perform it live as a duet? All the live versions I've heard are Damien solo

Default Performed

To my knowledge, the song has these versions/performances:

-Juniper - "Jewelery Box"

-Warchild - Help: A Day in the Life (Broken) - It was recorded at the wrong speed and "fixed" after the fact.

-Warchild - Help: A Day in the Life (Re-recorded) - The current version that is found on the website/I-Tunes

-11/13/06 @ the El Rey Theater, CA - He played only a part of it in his medley of songs (Amie, Rat Within the Grain, Lonelily, Gray Room, Cross-eyed Bear, Bottom Shelf)

-12/15/06 @Upper Darby, PA - To open the set

-3/16/07 Munich - following Amie > Jam > Sex Change > Cross-Eyed Bear

-5/1/07 - SDSU OAT. CA - By request

-5/22/07 - Boston Opera House - ?

Personally, my favorite it the El Rey version. I may be partial because that was the first time I've seen it live. But the Juniper version is stellar as well

I don't think they have performed it live together.

He also played Cross eyed Bear at the Civic in Chicago (May 14), the live recording is floating around (in mp3s not flacs) but the sound quality is a bit low. Well, similar to the other ones.

The best one IMO is the one from Boston from last week. The sound quality is amazing, better than soundboard, and he sings it very well, in an in crescendo kinda way!! But I like the one from El Rey too!!!

I thought the performance in Philly was good, but I haven't listened to the recording yet (I have it, but I've got a back log of stuff to listen to). Is the recording not very good?

the recording's phenomenal. And supports a good cause. I highly recommend it.

I've actually played it on my iTunes twice more than any other song in my entire library, having purchased it immediately after philly. But anyway....

No. You know who my friend is. And we were talking about Lonely Soldier being played, and actually commenting on which of the random tunes we'd like to hear. I said Lonelilly, the person said
Person: Lazy-Eyed Bear is really one of my favorites.
Me: Cross-Eyed Bear.
P: Well, it's the same one. It doesn't have a name.
M: What?
P: Well, we were talking about the song and Damien said he hasn't decided on the name yet.
M: No no, it's too late. You can change BD II to Elephant becuase it wasn't released yet, but you can't sell a song on an album and then change the name.
P: (laughing) That's what he told me ?

I'd be surprised, because the person was in a really bad mood due to a major malfunction that took place that night (DC). Didn't seem jovial enough to be messing with me.
