Hard Drive Time!
Guess what I got in the mail today...
I've attached a text file of the excel sheet Richard created. I believe you can open that file and see everything I've got now. It's going to take me a few days to sort through it all 70gbs, obviously. So, here's what I'm going to do: I currently have two external hard drives. The pocket drive I sent to Richard, and one attached to my computer. Both hard drives will contain the entire archive. What this means is I there are two methods we can work here: 1 - If you want to send me a hard drive, I can copy over the archive to your hard drive, and return it to you. 2 - We can create a chain of people and I will send out the pocket hard drive for you to copy onto your computer and send on to the next person (and the last person would return it to me). Thoughts? Suggestions? Better Ideas? |

I'm not against "Method 1," but I like the chain idea better.
It will save us on shipping costs (only have to pay for one way, as opposed to also paying for a return shipment). It will also save us time - well, Mario's time. We've run some pretty successful vines here and they have proven a pretty solid means of disseminating other shows. I think it's definitely the way to go. And, before I forget, thanks Mario. And Richard. |

That's fine. Definitely cheaper via vine, but I better get my hard drive back...
If we could get a european vine, that would be great, too. I got a PM from someone last week who I think lived in Spain and wanted in. |

I think an European vine is a great idea to avoid the hard drives to travel back and forth.
Mario, I'm in Europe, and I wouldn't mind starting the EU vine!!

Okay. So we can do two vines. The problem this raises is that I have only one hard drive.
If someone in Europe wants to send me a hard drive, I'll copy everything on it and send it back. Otherwise, we're going to have to run the US vine, and the last person on it will have to send it to europe. After the initial look through, I've done nothing yet. I think I can find time this weekend to sit down and be sure I get all the shows onto the permanent HD. Also, things are obviously very slow around here and I think it would be silly to rush this and have a bunch of people left out. I'm sure you guys are anxious, I was as well, the only thing I'll say is that I shipped out to Richard in March and got it back in August, so I can state from experience that it won't kill you to wait a little while. That's not to say we won't be pissed off at someone if they hold onto the HD for five months! Richard took a while in part because he had to rip a bunch of CDs and in part because he was trying to collect shows to add to it. Also, let's keep records this way: Mario 1. Buddy [detroit] 2. Sister Midnight [minneapolis? I know it's Minnesota...] 3. A. Borneoman [italy] B. Glo [italy] C. quiquemartin (? You pmed me about it before we decided on the chain thing) [spain] D. As you can tell, I'm going to reserve the right to reorder the lists based on geography in order to save time and money. It'd obviously be dumb for me to send it from Philly to California, then that person sending it back to Boston. And even more so in the case of Europe mailing it between countries and such. Take your time, Mario. Definitely no reason to rush.
The collection takes up 70 gigs of memory, right? Gonna have to dust off an old external HD. Looking forward to it. |

we generally don't accept people into vines who only have one post and haven't established their presence in the community and that they are reliable traders. especially a vine of this magnitude.

I only posted becouse Mario invited me in a private message. But, of course, I understand your doubts. I ask to the two italians if one of them accept to receive my own disk, copy it, and send it back. And I offer my disk to be sent all over Europe to have 2 disks "touring". Thanks. |

Just for clarity, he pmed me asking about it, and I directed him to the thread. I don't know him in any way. Sorry for the confusion, which is clearly my fault. |

no one's fault. i was just being cautious, considering the years of work, by countless individuals, that have gone into taping, trading, converting and archiving these shows. not to mention richard's valiant effort at putting five months into this project.
plus i wanted to be sure you got your hard drive back.. |

Fille Danse screwed up the list, so let me repost it. Also, Lauren, I'm going to bump you down a couple spots for efficiency in mailing. This may change again...:
