Pickup
Hi, try a fishman pickup, they are the best I know. Do a google search and you should find their website.

ehhhh, i am not a fan of fishman at all... they sound like an electrified acoustic guitar, when i just want my acoustic guitars to sound like acoustic guitars... some companies to look into for quality pickups:
lr baggs k&k b-band

i'm not 100% sure but i think fitting a piezo pick up is the most commonly used way to record a spanish guitar....theyre pretty widely available and not too expensive, although there are probably better ones on the market these days....

not so sure about how to keep it in tune, although youll know yourself that new strings will go out of tune like crazy until they 'bed in'....and i'd definitely keep the guitar in the shade over there....nylon strings are a bitch anyway! although i must admit they sound good

Thanks Guys!! Its kept at the bottom of my room, and out of the light!! I would put it in its case but i think it will get even hotter in there!!! My strings are old, they have a nice Flamenco sound now that they are old!! I use Hannabach Flamenco Nylon Strigs. Medium tension!! they are the nicest Flamenco strings ever!!

A tried and tested way of recording acoustic guitar, is to sit on a stool in the corner of a room, facing into the corner (so that the guitar completes a triangle at 45degrees to each of the walls).
The reflections off the walls tend to give a "full" sound. Some people will even go so far as to put a reflective surface on the floor (i.e. no carpet, sit the stool on a piece of wood). Position of your mics can vary; some people recommend putting the mics mid-way between guitar and corner; I've also seen mics placed BEHIND the player. If memory serves, a coincident pattern for the mics gives good results. One of the recording magazines ran an article about recording acoustic guitars a few months ago (perhaps it was sound on sound? I forget, sorry). If I were recording that, I'd first try the coincident technique with mics behind the player (facing into the corner), then depending on how that sounded I'd try running split omnis (again, behind the player). Google for "recording acoustic guitar corner of room" for more info. best regards, stephen |
