i am an idiot. jack hannah the animal guy will be on and someone else...so most likely damien is just singing...which is still awesome.

(original post)

I would have never thought in a million years that damien rice would be on the ellen degeneres show...and he will be...which is awesome. the thing im wondering... on her website, it says under wednesdays show, only damien rice's cd and some thing she will be talking about. no one else...which leads me to wonder if he will actually be talking as well...which if he does...WILL definitely surprise me. it doesnt seem like a talk show he would do, but thats just my own nearsightedness. kudos to that show for getting him and i hope he plays and talks.

Go figure. I was just watching Ellen dancing around joyously to Stevie Wonder and blessing us with her razor sharp wit about a half an hour ago thinking "how could anybody aside from the most homophobic people on earth not adore this woman?" She's gotta be one of the funniest ladies in history and is also one of the most regular, everyday seeming stars I can think of. Truly a wonderful reminder that being oneself is more than inspirational enough.

That said, Damo seemed even more nervous than ever on camera for the beginning and end of this one. He really looked like he only finally let himself go during the bridge part.

Just watched the performance, thought it was really good! Dogs is one of my favorites from "9" so it was wonderful to hear it live! And the entire audience got copies of the "9"! Lucksters!

i tried to get away from my desk for 5 minutes to see if i could catch it because we have two tv's sitting in the break room, but apparently none of the tv's in the whole building get any reception, they're just there for watching training videos..

i was a little irked

so you are not so subtlely calling me homophobic, if not one of "the most homophobic people on Earth? i dont really think thats merits a response, frankly, but i will give you one anyway. which is that, far from being homophobic, i just think she is rubbish, im sorry to tell you, and this may come as a shock, that watching her "dance joyously to stevie wonder" will do little to change my opinion.... maybe if she done it david brent-style, i would be won over.

Actually no, I wasn't calling you homophobic at all. Instead, I was basically saying to myself (before I'd even read your post) this woman is so infectous at spreading joy I honestly don't see how anybody couldn't love her including most people who normally aren't comfortable about homosexuals.

My grandmother, for example, had the very skewed view that all gay people were evil growing up in the 1920's because she never knew any. A few years ago she told me she "just loves that Ellen". Then she sorta whispered to me conspiratorily "you know that she's lesbian.". I assured her that by now pretty much everyone alive was in on that secret. Then she said "but you know I don't even care. I like her anyway. I guess maybe there are some good people who are gay after all"

This is one of the reasons why I called Ellen Degeneres inspirational. She single handedly changed my then 87 year-old grandmother's opinion that an entire group of people, whom she was taught to fear, were just like everyone else. She did that through her brilliant gift as an entertainer.

Now please tell me how it's possible that you are able to watch "Ellen Degeneres: the Beginning" all the way through without crying your eyes out and literally having your face hurt from laughing so hard. Even though I've seen it about 9 times that still can't be done by me. Still gets my vote for funniest female alive. Paula Poundstone and Margaret Cho are definitely way up there too.

fair enough, i apologise for jumping to my conclusion. i seen the episode of her show with the pyjama party, that was quite good... shes not really high profile in the UK anymore, so there isnt much of her to see, for me to agree with you.
