ray lamontagne
Any ray lamontagne fans?? i bought his new album yesterday and i think it's just amazing. I loved "trouble". I think it's one of my all time favourite albums. I really thought he would struggle to come up with something as impressive again but i was wrong. He's surpassed it in my opinion. "When The Sun Turns Dark" is simply a work of astonishing quality. What does everyone else think?

I also love 'trouble' but there are a couple of tracks I tend to skip, but there's not a single track I don't listen to on the new album...by the way, to my horror, I recently discovered I'd been pronouncing Lamontagne wrong (it seems it's not meant to rhyme with lasagne after all!)

That's okay Mari- it's a mistake easily made!! What's your favourite track from the new album? I absolutely love "till the sun turns black" and "can i stay". I remember seeing him live in Dublin a few months back and he played "Can I Stay" at the end of his set. Eventhough i didn't recognise the song i was completely blown away by it.

I never actually listened to Emmet Tinley i'm ashamed to admit. He's definitely someone i must check out! What you were saying about some musicians just having that special something is actually really interesting. For me, Paul Noonan from Bellx1 just has an amazing energy and presence when he is onstage. Obviously he's a lot more brash than Ray Lamontagne but he really knows how to work a stage and a crowd.

I've tried, so hard, but I cannot get into this guy.
All I hear is Joe Cocker with better lyrics... |

Ray and Damien are my favorite living musicians, hands down.
I'm .....reluctant to use the word disappointed in regards to the new album but let' s just say that it is taking longer to grow on me whereas Trouble needed no time to "grow," it more or less attacked me. "Empty" And "You Can Buy Me Flowers" are my favorite tracks so far. |

I know what you mean about Paul Noonan too! Bell X1 played a small venue in Oxford a few months ago, Paul was very charismatic, I got the impression I'd never get the chance to see them play infront of such a small crowd again. Umm... Back to Ray! 'please' is a gorgeous song, thanks for the links!

does anyone know if Ray has some other unrealeased gems like 'please'? I'd love to get as much of his stuff as i possibly can.
Also, i was just thinking about how surprised i've been about the lack of promotion ray's new album received. Over the last few months, all the mainstream radio stations in Ireland had been playing his stuff. But nothing from his new album has gotten any airplay. I mean the first time i knew about his new album was when i saw it on sale in Virgin Megastores in Limerick. any one else as surprised by this as i am? Or should i have expected it? |

I caught Ray LaMontagne this summer in Rochester, NY opening for Guster. I first saw him last summer when he opened for Dave Matthews Band in Darien Lake, NY.
Good good stuff. The new album is fantastic. - Matt |

I saw him 4 times this summer open for guster. I love Ray Lamontagne. Whoever was in charge of booking the two together on a tour should be fired. Guster fans arent the best audience for Ray....though I am a huge guster fan.
I recently wrote an article on Ray in my friends mens magazine at cyrant.com

yeah i love "burn" too. i suppose the idea and the lines kinda summed up a moment in my life. I just love the lines:
"so kiss him again, just to prove to me that you can and i will stand here, and burn in my skin" my friend asked me to play a song at her 21st birthday cos she never heard me sing before. i played this for her. little did she know how true it was. still is. |

i imagine she already has somebody and that's why you haven't told her how you feel? friends make the best relationships. my husband and i have been together for 8 years now and we were really good friends for about 2 years before that. i think we were both just scared to do anything about how we felt. then we finally did and here we are, 8 years later!!
(sorry to give you the story of my life !) |

please don't apologize, i'm really happy to hear that. no, she actually doesn't have anyone else. that night she kissed someone which hurt but it was just a once off. i really shouldn't have been surprised because she is the most beautiful woman i have ever seen. and i'm not trying to sound self-deprecating with what i say next, it's the truth....she is far too good for me. she deserves better.

i don't even know you but i think you're wrong in saying that. just reading what you said about how beautiful she is - i think she'd be silly not to give it a shot.
by the way, were you two dating when this incindent happened?? |

i think trouble was released at the start of last year. I've certainly had a copy of it for 15 months anyway so sometime before that. Till the Sun was only released here in the last month or so.
