Damien & Tori - Orange Knickers live clip
I spent the last week trying to find the clip from the only live performance ever of Tori Amos & Damien Rice doing The Power of Orange Knickers. Happened in Dublin, Vicar St in 2005. I couldn't find it on youtube or any website but in the end I found it on an old CD, so I just went and put it online:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0 You would never ever guess which shirt he's wearing... (Sorri, quality is so-so)

Thanks Marti! Very nice performance....but yeah, he does seem quite uncomfortable, a bit timid...and it's quite funny to see him without an instrument in his hands! And I think I prefer this live version more than the recorded version actually....it's much more mello.

and thanks to everyone who shares just for eskimos happyness! asking for anything in return... sorry, but i had this thought came to my mind... cause i have nothing to share... it seems i´m taking and taking... and all i have to give is a tinny (but sincere) "thank you"... sorry about that... but, i promise you if i ever have the chance to see damien live... i´ll give you all that i could... i guess someone is very sensitive right now!

^Verenita you're too sweet!!!!
Found a couple of interesting things and put them on line. First I found a slighty better mp3 of that live performance of The Power of Orange Knickers from Dublin. Then I found an mp3 of Tori Amos herself doing a cover of The Blower's Daughter from the 2005 tour. Actually I did request it!!!!!!! but she didn't play it at my concert... but 3 months later. Not that crazy about the cover, she dragged it a bit too much, but still it's nice. Since I was making mp3s, I added the ones for Bohemian rhapsody, I Rememba/La Bamba and Black is the Colour. here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/2208578/4...0/sharing.html

Thank you Marti! Yeah I agree about the BD cover, very nice, but maybe could've been better
So I have a question, I've glanced through some other threads but I'm not sure if I understand properly, this was the only live performance they did together? Gosh, I would love to hear Damien sing it even by himself! I had never heard this song before, but I absolutely love it now! One of the most heart-wrenching songs I've heard. Here are the lyrics if anyone's interested: The power of orange knickers The power of orange knickers The power of orange knickers Under my petty coat The power of listening to what You don't want me to know Can somebody tell me now who is this terrorist? Those girls that smile kindly then rip your life to pieces? Can somebody tell me now Am I alone with this This little pill in my hand And with this secret kiss Am I alone in this? A matter of complication When you become a twist For their latest drink As they're transitioning Can somebody tell me now who is this terrorist? This little pill in my hand that keeps the pain laughin' Can somebody tell me now a way out of this? That sacred pipe of red stone could blow me out of this kiss Am I alone in this? The power of orange knickers Under my petty coat The power of listening to what You don't want me to know Shame shame, time to leave me now Shame shame, you've had your fun Shame shame, for letting me think That I would be the one Can somebody tell me now who is this terrorist? This little pill in my hand or this secret kiss Am I alone in this kiss? Am I alone in this kiss? -from the lyrics pg Last edited by Lindsay; 10-19-2007 at 12:29 AM. |

To be honest...
this song bores the hell out of me. I don't know why, but it simply doesn't move me at all. Neither the studio version nor the live version...

though i'm not a tori fan so maybe that's it. plus it would have been better if it was a true duet, it's like he's her back up singer. and it doesn't showcase damien's amazing voice at all, his part is so monotone.. that said though i kind of like listening to it at times, just for the trivia |

I quite enjoyed the duet ...
but i have to say that i didn't really like the blower's daughter cover, its too.... slow! ? but i thought it was kinda funny to hear her sing this song... with her pronounciation!... i quite liked that! she definately made it her own!

you have to understand that the way Damien sings in the duet is intentional. Tori asked him to sing like that because of the meaning of the song. In the beginning I was also thinking, why does Damien sing so coldly? Then at some meet n greet in 2005 she explained that it was done on purpose cos that's what the song calls for if you take into account the story in the song. The central idea of the song is the word 'terrorist' and how someone can act like a terrorist in a relationship too. The song is about when two people are in a relationship with 2 completely opposite attitudes, one is completely in love, give give give, the other is completely passive and is more "I like you" than "I love you"and making zero effort for the relationship. Hence the line "I am alone in this kiss" which I think it's brutally brilliant!!!! Isn't that like the saddest thing... in a way those lyrics are almost Damien-esque although he didn;t have anything to do with the song, he came in once the song was finished.
So in the song Tori is the 'she', the one in love, give give give, and Damien is the 'he', the passive one, and that's why he sings in a way that is supposed to reflect his character in the song, which might sound cold if you miss the song background... Sorry for the rambling, I'm the Tori-defender
