dEuS - where to start?
Hey, Soda got me interested in dEUS when he visited copenhagen over the easter (we sat in a bar w/o music, listening to eachother's ipods - very recommendable way to spend an evening i must say! ) and i understood from the different tracks he played for me that this is an extremely versatile band, changing a lot from album to album.
So my question to you clever people (Soda and others) is now: Where should i start if i wanna try to get into dEUS before the roskilde festival(apart from learning when to hold down the shIFt ButToN and when to nOT)?? I am currently getting my hands on a 3 album torrent containing: - Pocket revolution - my sister = my clock - worst case scenario now where shall i begin? (before you answer, i gotta add an image to this thread also; makes it so much more festive)

In order of appearance:
My sister is my clock: a weird EP, not recommended to start with Worst case scenario: a wicked album with great tunes like Suds and Soda ( ) and Hotel lounge (often played by the frames), their official debut. In a bar under the sea: less rocky than the one above, more diverse, very brilliant, stand-outs Theme from turnpike, Roses, Little Arithmetics. Ideal Crash: Lovely more pop oriented record with lots of heart break songs, more approachable in my opinion and less artsy, Sister dew is brilliant. No more loud music: greatest hit album, a nice collection with one extra ' new ' song, Nothing really ends. Pocket Revolution: after 7 yeaers of absence the return of the rejuvenated dEUS, lots of new band members, very much rock oriented. If you don't get what you want and Nightshopping are great. Spin offs from members of dEUS: Magnus, a dance project, Any way the wind blows, movie written and directed by the lead vocalist of dEUS (tom barman), solo live album Tom Barman and Guy van Nuyten, lovely accoustic versions of dEUS songs and some great covers like River by Nick Drake, Zita Swoon, the band from Stef Camil Carmens, very interesting stuff ranging from artsy rock to disco to latin, at the moment Mauro Pilovsky is also member of dEUS and he has numerous bands and projects going on. I saw them several times live, and not to be missed! |
