HELP! MAKING CD...WHAT TO PUT IN IT?

ok I know a lotta youse peoples are savvy when it comes to music. I am in dire need at the moment cuz I'm trying to make a CD mix for a certain someone. They are into singer/songwriters so I figured you guys can help me outa bit on this situation. I would be eternally grateful for any suggestions. Give at the most 2 songs (but if you gotsta preach, then by all means, leme know whats good). Im shooting for a cheery mood, but if its just a beautiful (but sad) song, then sure...OK just any good song, I'll be very happy if I even get a response. So, discuss. That´s a nice, significant little task you´ve got there... I love putting together mixed CD´s. May I suggest:

Bright Eyes - A scale, a mirror and those indifferent clocks

Red House Painters - Haev you forgotten

I love Bright Eyes btw!!! Maybe he could put The City Has Sex on the CD... that one sounds a bit cheerful, although it's a f**king depressing song![img]smileys/smiley2.gif[/img]

I guess... but you know, sadness and melancholy can be both beautiful and uplifting sometimes. He (Conor Oberst) has done some quite cheerful songs too, some of his more recent work is. Like Bowl of Oranges for instance.

But let´s not make this a Bright Eyes-topic...

Tom Waits, "Better off without a wife" from nighthawks at the diner. Let her know that you're still in control and the she doesn't have you whipped yet. I'd make it the last track on the disc. You may or may not want to include in introduction to it where he talks about taking himself out on a date.
