Just for Fun: Dream Setlist
Just for fun, I thought I might start this thread to get everyone's opinion about the ultimate setlist for a Damien Rice Gig. So here are the rules.
1)18 total songs broken up however you want it (aka, put the encore/s where you want and list the songs in order in which you would want it to be played at the gig). (18 seems like a fair number for a longer gig, please stick to the limit) 2) Mention Damien solo or with the full band (and you can mention with or without Lisa). 3) The venue My List goes as follows; Damien, Lisa, and the full band Venue: The Troubadour, Los Angeles, CA, USA 1) Cross-Eyed Bear * 2) Amie 3) Cannonball 4) Coconut Skins 5) I remember (Extened) 6) Gray Room 7) Cheers Darlin’ > 8) Prague 9) Rootless Tree (Piano) 10) Delicate 11) The Professor & La Fille Danse 12) Elephant > 13) Creep@> 14) Blower’s Daughter 15) Hallelujah Encore 16) Accidental Babies 17) Coldwater (Extened) 18) Silent Night& *Damien Solo > Flows into next song @Cover & Lisa Solo

Nice idea:
1) Blowers Daughter, it's just instantly recognisable so hopefully it would silence the crowd 2) --> Elephant 3) Grey Room 4) Cross Eyed-Bear (slowly working up to more joyous songs) 5) Cold Water (in darkness <3) 6) Older Chests 7) The Professor 8) Coconut Skins 9) Lonelily 10) Toffee Pop (with some stories and improv. over last four) 11) Eskimo 12) ---> I remember (long version) 13) Amie 14) Sand 15) Accidental Babies *** Encore *** 16) Rootless Trees 17) Volcano 18) Cannonball |

O didn't read the rest.
The venue would be my front room, failing that Spring and Airbrake in Belfast as it would be very intimate. Also it would have to be the full band with Lisa. |

MINNEAPOLIS, MN / northrop auditorium / 05.18.2007 Damien Enters 1. THE RAT WITHIN THE GRAIN -->Damien Piano Solo Band Enters 2. ROOTLESS TREE -->Full Band, but Damien at Piano, not guitar, Album Version with Extended "Bridge" into... 3. 9 CRIMES -->Full Band, Damien at Piano, Fast Version, No Break between "Rootless Tree" & "9 Crimes", last chorus, the band dies and Damien plays the last chorus with just the piano, Lisa singing, & Vyvienne and the tempo slows down Damien greets crowd, gets guitar 4. WOMAN LIKE A MAN -->Starts off Damien solo on guitar, band doesn't come in till after the second chorus, Vyv does a layer of vocals on top of the song as well 5. THEN GO -->Fast Rock Version, Full Band, Damien does second verse, I'd love to hear him sing "stick your probe in further" 6. VOLCANO -->Lots of electric, Ends though after the bridge "She's still too young...." and it softens there and ends Mood Change 7. DELICATE -->Damien Solo, invites the audience to sing with him on the chorus 8. FAST CAR -->Tracy Chapman cover, Full Band, Damien on Guitar 9. COCONUT SKINs -->Full Band 10. THE BLOWER's DAUGHTER with TORI AMOS -->Damien Piano Solo, Instead of Lisa singing the bridge, we hear a voice from off stage and Tori Amos walks on stage and sings the rest of the song with Damien Chit-chat about working with each other, & 'TPoOK' 11. THE POWER of ORANGE KNICKERs with TORI AMOS -->With Damien's Band, Damien gets the second verse to sing and Tori is on the piano (they switch places) and Damien just on vocals, they share a hug after Amos exits 12. GREY ROOM -->Full Band 13. CANNONBALL -->Full Band, Radio Remix Version Damien thanks audience for coming 14. COLD WATER/TRANSATLANTICISM -->Full Band, Damien at the piano, he adds the first verse of Death Cab's 'Transatlanticism' in the middle of 'Cold Water' somewhere, long finale, first verse of 'Cold Water' is done as a duet by Damien and Lisa and is done acapella and they do it on the same microphone, and then he goes and sits on the piano and the band slowly comes in Encore 1 Damien Enters 15. SAND -->Damien Solo Band Enters 16. LONELILLY -->Full Band, Extended Version Encore 2 17/18. I REMEMBER (part I)/BABY SISTER/I REMEMBER (part II) -->Full Band, "I Remember (Part I)" is just Lisa's part and is done acapella and the band comes in after "you my love" with 'Baby Sister' and after 'Ave Maria' goes into the rest of "I Remember", long encore fin

Full band. Any venue in Calgary, Canada.
1. Delicate 2. Volcano (extended) 3. The Blower's Daughter 4. Cross-eyed Bear 5. Older Chests 6. Amie (extended looping ending into -->) 7. Eskimo 8. Cannonball 9. Cold Water (extended) 10. Elephant 11. Lonely Soldier 12. Sand 13. Lonelily 14. I Remember (extended into-->) 15. Accidental Babies Encore 16. The Professor 17. Cheers Darlin' (extended into -->) 18. Prague Everything on O plus two of the songs from 9 and some unreleased ones. I'm surprised that people are putting so many songs form 9 on their lists! I don’t know, to me the songs on 9 are no where as good as O. Maybe I just don’t “get” them like other people do, and maybe they’ll grow on me over time, but right now I don’t care for most of them. Especially “Coconut Skins”…a lot of people are putting that one, but I don’t see why myself. The song does nothing for me.

Rootless Tree (first piano, then guitar) Insane Prague Woman like a Man The Blower's "Creep" Daughter (or no daughter, just full-length-creep) The Animals were Gone Then Go Me, my Yoke + I Is that it my Friend (with the amazing reggae outro, pulleeease...) > Volcano Face (+ Kiss!!!) Cheers Darlin' (with the whole story, show etc.) --------------------------------- Elephant (unplugged & solo) Accidental Babies (with the extended ending!) Baby Sister \ with Cold Water / Lisa --------------------------------- I Remember (with bang bang and/or when doves cry/feeling good... don't care as long as it's really looong and goood) rather utopian, I know...

this is excellent and at the same time really hard.
i forget names all the time have to mime and sing to figure out what the hell i heard. for the utmost immediate get go and naming those i can remember, i would like ot hear, in no particular order. sorry, i'm breaking all the rules, but then that's what i do. in no particular order; lonelily woman like a man creep lilac wine rootless tree Volcano me my yoke and i cold water the songs from the new album have changed names so can i please get back to you about them? i think it's dogs that i really miss. not sure. some kind of weird and wonderful spin off that has no explanation. i don't feel it's been a proper gig unless there is something properly random. oh buggar, i'm too pissed, can i return to this tomorrow? |
