if anyone didnt know it was closed down at the start of the city of culture year (irony anyone) because it didnt have a proper fire escape......
i for one would have risked it!!!

This is the latest statement on the Lobby's website (25 Feb 05)

STATEMENT FROM PAT CONWAY, THE LOBBY BAR, CORK

The Lobby Bar, Cork, which has been closed for past three weeks, will remain closed in the medium term to facilitate the reorganisation and restructuring of the business.

‘We at The Lobby feel proud of our contribution to the Cork music scene over the last 17 years’ Pat Conway said today. ‘We look forward to reopening in the near future. We very much appreciate all the support from our friends in music both at home and abroad.’

Details of The Lobby opening will be posted in local press nearer the time.

Thank you

maybe they are just looking for a new change in management and not actually knocking it down... if they are to change it we should try to get damien on board and play some gigs to raise money to keep it open perhaps?

it's fecking awful......it went in the paper on thursday, 1million for the building and another 150,000 for the license, i think the lobby is quite possibly the best music venue in ireland and it is really saad to think of the possibility of it no longer operating as a music venue.....what about all those simply amazing photos that adorn the walls......

don't think they were able to simply put a fire escape ladder out the window, cos they'll lead onto roads or something ridiculous like this...

don't think that it's simply a case of change of management.....unfortuantely....but hopefully a music fan, with plenty of cash will honour the venue and re-open it as a music venue....17 years of music history and i can't believe that it'll all be gone........

noooo, i want to buy it for you ali! i think you deserve it, you can sing there every day! i'd go see you at least four times a week!

but really, i think it's horrible how they shut that down when cork is the european capital of culture... it kinda sums the whole thing up for me...

i hope whoever buys it keeps it going as a live music venue... i bet it gets turned into starbucks...
