how to choose a good acoustic electric guitar?

i have been playing classical for 3 years and this is my first time, buying an acoustic guitar.i read some articles and most of them wrote about how to buy an acoustic guitar.So, i have some ideas on tonewood and all that..but, i am thinking i should just invest more in order to buy an acoustic electric as i am thinking having an acoustic electric would be more convenient for live gigs.

guys, do u know how to choose a good acoustic electric? what do i need to know about the expression systems? how to test it before i buy it?
