John Peel was an absolute legend

The man who gave peoplelike:

HendrixThe Smiths The Clash The Cure The Pogues Joy Division The Strokes The White Stripes Interpol their first (or first UK) airplay

Its amazing to think he was 60 - 65 and still discovering amazing new bands like the last 3 on the above list.

John thank you for enriching so many peoiples lives.

Your not my type I can tell we wouldnt get along

The Undertones also. it's a real shock to hear isn't it? it's not like he had been retired for years or anything. I mean, he's still on the radio schedule and everything. I hope there will be some excellent tribute programmes on radio and television.Edited by: The Weatherman

the main thing that struckme was that they were total hippies. They'd never lost their 60's ideals, unlike other members of their generation. I guess this was ironic for the guy who championed the punk movement, but John was out there on his own all the way. Even 20 years ago there was no-one coming up behind him, and there's no-one to touch him now. <!--
