I reckon you'll probably see them on ebay for astronomical prices, if i won then though i'd probably want to hold onto them.

i just read on the live 8 web site that the tickets can't be resold, do you think is there gonna be a way to prevent this, like printing the names on the tickets and then requesting id's or something like that

I know Clear Channel were selling (really expensive) VIP tickets about a week ago but there's nothing about them on their site now so I'm guessing they're all gone. If you're prepared to pay though it might be worth contacting them to see if they'll be releasing anymore:
http://www.getlive.co.uk/information/contact_us.aspx

edit: VIP ticket information link lower down...

Hope you manage to get some anyway. I can't believe the crazy prices they're going for on ebay - bids up to £861 for 2!!! And someone's selling a pair with buy it now for £1000!!!! It's so wrong...

they will do what they did at glasto, print names and request ID, they should do that everywhere, cos they damien rice tickets are all over ebay, counted them and worked out there was about 20 tickets for sale, so that's 20 people including me who can't go cos someone wants to make a quick buck or 2, although i can't go now anyway still pissed me off at the time

This has to be a mistake, right?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...539509077&rd=1

You only need a mobile number and PIN to claim the tickets so I'm guessing if the seller gives you those details you can register the tickets in your name.

Pisses me off too though Shane...

eBay donation

Auction website eBay said while it would not prevent people from selling tickets online, it would make a donation to Live 8 "at least equivalent to the fees we collect from the sale of Live 8 tickets".

"The reselling of charity concert tickets is not illegal under UK law, so eBay will allow these tickets to be sold on the site," a spokeswoman said.

"eBay believes it is a fundamental right for someone to be able to sell something that is theirs whether they paid for it or won it in a competition," she added.

Live 8 organisers said eBay had been "very helpful", adding the concert's lawyers would take action against anyone trying to sell tickets.

Winners have the choice of having tickets sent, with signature required on receipt, or to collect them at an O2 store, where they would have to produce proof of address as well as ID.
So I'm guessing they're printing names and addresses, and ID will be required on the day. *shrugs*

Has anyone looked at ebay today? The sellers are really getting what they deserve

Cali, sorry this thread has gone a bit off topic. I've found the VIP ticket information on the Clear Channel site:
http://www.getlive.co.uk/experience/...&perfid=117972

I think the price is around £400 but you'll get to be in the Gold Circle at the very front. I think you also get hotel accommodation included, so it might be worth it if you can afford it.

I saw Bob on SkyNews a little while ago condemning EBay for allowing the tickets to be resold... he called on people to 'bring it down'... a few minutes ago EBay announced they will be removing all the auctions.

that's good they should do it with all ticket auctions, or at least u only pay for what people paid for them, what makes me laugh is people say they can't go, if u can't go why ****in request tickets in the first place

Yeah, it's really fantastic... i'd usually defend the right to a free market, but when touts come into the picture i just lose my temper. It's good to see a huge company like ebay doing what's right rather then what's profitable. It's obviously to save face and make them look like the good guys, but still... it's good.

Yes but sometimes people really do end up with spare tickets for genuine reasons.

All this could be avoided though if you could just return your tickets and have them refunded, then everyone would be happy!

But did they pay for the tickets in the first place? If so, only sell them for face value.

Anyway, here's the announcement, as interpreted by Rolingstone.com

EBAY PULLS LIVE 8 TICKETS

eBay announced yesterday that it will no longer allow listings for
tickets to the London Live 8 concert -- which will feature
performances by U2, PAUL MCCARTNEY, STING, and MADONNA at Hyde Park on July
2nd -- following organizer BOB GELDOF's denouncement of the online
auction site as an "electronic pimp . . . profiteering on the backs of
the impoverished." The concert, and the four others around the world
on the same day, are to raise awareness of global poverty.
