I'm thinking about asking my honey for tickets to the May 3
show for my birthday, but when I checked, there were only
seats available in the loge and up.

Has anyone been to the Beacon before? How is it in general?
Are the loge seats decent?

I happily admit to being a concert snob - if I'm going to pay
good money and take a day off from work, I don't want to sit so
far back that the performer's just a speck, and I don't want to be
surrounded by people who are only there to drink and talk.

The Beacon's pretty small, but it gets...more interesting the higher up you go. In the upper balcony I can almost guarantee there will be people smoking pot. People tend to talk more the farther away they are from the stage. That said, one of the most amazing concerts I saw there was Sigur Ros and I was in the absolute last row of the upper balcony.

I, too, am a bit of a concert snob, so I understand the concern.
