Hey that's great for the Guggenheim. Some nice
exposure there for a new Irish band on their way up.
Nice one Damo!

If number four is the song I think it is from "Talk to Her" then I gotta concur. It's one of the most overwhelmingly romantic things you'll ever hear.

I'm gonna need to go to GG's website. Haven't heard of 'em over here yet.

I haven't done my research, but....does anyone know off-hand where I can get an English translation of Ne Me Quitte Pas??

Also, similar to the other thread about Damien and his iPod, why does it strike me as strange and somewhat surprising that a Prince song made the top five?? It IS actually a pretty song, but still......it makes me want to watch Purple Rain again!

http://donthink.net/nelly/french.htm

for the translation of Ne me quitte pas.

try to find a live version from brel, WOW

i once saw a crappy black and white recording of Brel singing it. it
was filmed with a spotlight behind him, so only the contours were
visible. and this guy was sweating and crying and putting in sooo much
emotion in the song. that image stayed with me.

Many thanks Soda! The only version I've ever heard is a cover by Nina Simone (another singer I've heard Damien mention that he likes)--it's beautiful, but I want to check out the original for sure!

I don't know from whom is the origional. I also know a pretty good version by Edith Piaf.

I don't really like Nina Simone, anly some of her songs. I do like
Billie Holiday. Its pretty cool, she was a really rock 'n roll jazz
lady with lots of booze and drug troubles.

hello

its great to see that you can like someone who sings in french... :-)

here (in france), ne me quitte pas is likeTHE sad love song... and the original is from Brel..

i see you didnt need me to translate... :-(

Brel was very impressive, he was always sweating a lot, and he was so absorbed by the songs...

Hell yeah girl---let's start aGuggenheim revolution!!! For my own selfish reasons, I'm glad Damien put Lifetime on his top 5 so more people will check them out....way I figure it, they're probably gonna have to get pretty well known in Ireland for them to come over here to the States--or maybe they already are getting big over there--are they Irish eskimos???

But for real, your dream concert is my dream concert too--I've gone so far as to tell Kevin from Guggenheim that I strongly recommend them touring with Damien (uh, yeah, like they're gonna listen to ME--but Itried)!

Thankyou for telling Kevin that. I too have brightened his day with an adoring letter. I hope he's considered it Very much, I wish there would be a way to tell Damien the same. For that and if I had enough money for a ticket I'd fly to Ireland.
