I know it seems crazy high, but one auction was up to $113 before it had sold the other day...

In the past he's been called 'americana', 'alternative country' and 'power pop'

Power Pop... classic. You can just imagine the five of them with fancy synchronised dance moves and screaming nine year old girls.

Actually it's even funnier since Power Pop first referred to the "hardcore" bands that had the really catchy melodies in the pre-90's version of Punk (Green Day, Blink 182, Smoking Popes etc.)

I'm surprised it hasn't already then. They've been constantly labeled that for over 15 years now.The term has lost what little meaning it contained for quite some time anyway. I remind you that it could've been far worse (Simple Plan?!) at least GD's first two fit the underground DIY ethic and grit well.

Whatever genre people want to put them in, though, I'll gladly stand by GD as one of the best and most consistant mega popular rock bands of their generation. They, along with the great Pearl Jam are really the only ones who survived post-grunge and I think its because they both really continued to stretch and challenge themselves with every record and are probably even more relevant today.

I hope you at least appreciated my quotes around hardcore?

^ Completely agree as a fan of both GD and Pearl Jam those two bands are the best example of the evolution of a bands music. off topic I know its already been said but it cant be said enough.

i cannot get behind green day, they annoy the hell out of me. i understand they're very popular i just never saw why. to me their music is simplistic and lacks depth, and i must have missed the evolution..

plus it's way too poppy to even be considered punk (whoever started throwing that term at them needs their head examined) they just co-opted all of the best elements of the genre and churned out some radio friendly fascimile (or monstrosity, depending on your perspective)

and to be honest, pearl jam bores me

American Idiot ug, dislike. GRRR, i love all the stuff before. Especially their first album kerplunk. But American Idiot is like,

"we are such punk rebels writing songs about how we dislike the government, and we're going to completely colour code ourselves and make ourselves into a marketable brand, which is possibly the most unpunk thing known to man"

Filth, the song writing is still pretty lush, but i can't appreciate it, knowing how successfully it's been "sold" to me. Bastard.

Yikes. Are people bidding on it? I guess people are willing to pay a hefty amount of money for the music they like.
