Brent Knopf (Ramona Falls, Menomena) Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) Sufjan Stevens Ferraby Lionheart Nathaniel Rateliff Ray LaMontagne Scott Matthew Andrew Bird Damien Jurado Jason Mraz Canada: ! Patrick Watson ! Leif Vollebekk ! Mark Berube Dan Mangan Rolf Klausener (The Acorn) Taylor Kirk (Timber Timbre) Scandinavia: Teitur Lesli Moddi Thomas Feiner José González Rasmus Kellerman (Tiger Lou) UK: ! Ali Whitton Alexi Murdoch Ben Howard Ed Harcourt Israel Nebeker (Blind Pilot) Nick Talbot (Gravenhurst) Germany: Gisbert zu Knyphausen Thees Uhlmann (Tomte) Jan Plewka (Selig) Plus, of course: Concerning female Si/So, I can only think of Sophie Hunger, Amanda Palmer and PJ Harvey right now. There's Feist, there's Nina Kinert, Sarah Slean, Britta Persson, LAURA MARLING, JESCA HOOP, Anna Calvi, Ane Brun, CARINA ROUND, Bat for Lashes, Lisa Hannigan, Lissie.... Plenty good girls out there too! But I find it hard to remember them too, oddly enough. My brain is a dick.

How could I forget. Love these two. Rather rare female examples where I love both the voice AND the music/songwriting.

YES! Though Dan Mangan is a close second.
Neko Case for the girls!! Maybe Fiona apple, but don't know if you'd consider her too mainstream?

Said The Whale!!! If you haven't heard of Said The Whale I highly recommend them. I guarantee everyone here will love them. They are another Vancouver band and great friends with Dan Mangan. Really really good stuff. But anyways, to add to the already awesome list and some names I haven't seen...
Said The Whale, Quadron, William Fitzsimmons, Jess Harlen, Mumford and Sons, Mayer Hawthorne, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Chief, Andy Davis Hope I played this right :P I don't know all their real names so I just listed names.
