Default Traditional music...

I know this is a bit random but i'll give it a go anyway.

I've played the violin for the past 10/ 11 years -playin a lot of classical music with only the odd piece of traditional music thrown in. I realised recently that I want to start playing a lot more traditional music but (u knew there was one comin somewhere!) I dont really know where to look for sheetmusic. It's a bit tricky cos a lot of the traditional players i know have learnt their pieces from their fathers and their grandparents etc.. and have learnt by ear.
A friend recommended a book by/called O'Neill's which is s'posed to be pretty well known but I was wonderin if anyone here knows of any music/books etc which I could get ? I know its a bit of a shot in the dark but any comments will be appreciated. thanks

if you find a good program to open up midi files...noteworthy composer is one.

you can find a good midi of what song you're wanting the music for, then open it in that program, it will give you every part on a different staff.

are you wanting to play like, bluegrass, or what?

that's a really cheap and easy way to get whatever song you want. even classical. although it may be hard to find the perfect midi you want.

Try visiting this site, go to books and type 'tunes' or 'traditional music' in the search field and you should get some good results. Most are Highland/Shetland Trad with some Celtic stuff there too. Hope this helps.
