With all of the broken heart posts, I'd like to change the direction. I am getting married in two weeks to my best friend. We have been together for over seven years and I can't wait. So what words of advice do all you have?

Ah congratulations Aaron. My advice...follow your hearts, be honest, and always talk...oh and never leave an arguement unresolved. But seeing as how you have been together that long, you probably knew all that. Good luck and happiness to you both.

DON'T DO IT!!!! lol Just kidding....kind of. I've been married for a little over a year and we've been together for almost 8 years. I want to tell you something that I wish I had been told before I got married....First of all, the first year is the hardest. Secondly, marriage is incredibly hard work. I know that sounds like a duh. Because any relationship is hard work, but when you throw in a marriage certificate it somehow becomes much more difficult. Remember, to never stop being each other's friend. Allow room for mistakes and plenty of forgiveness. Be open and honest. Always be prepared to go out of your way to make things right. In a world where divorce is extremely high, it's easy to think that "Well, if it doesn't work out, I can always get a divorce." The past year has been extraordinarily hard. We've been put in extreme situations that have tested our love, strength and commitment to each other...and we continue to be tested. There will always be situations that will be beyond your control. Never stop being there for the other in those types of messes. It's okay to need a shoulder, but don't forget to be their shoulder as well. (Which can become difficult when you're the one that feels you really need that shoulder.) I wish you the best of luck. I hope that you take my advice to heart. We have been put in devestating situation after devestating situation, and even though it seems like it would be much easier to walk away...I think we both know that somehow (though we have no idea how) we'll come out of this side by side. Congratulations!!! |

congratulations! i've been married for five months after five years of dating, and the best advice that i can give you is to find something to laugh about every day, especially on those days where there seems to be absolutely nothing good.marriage isa hard transition to make, but so worth it if you both put in the effort. and wear comfortable shoes to the wedding/reception. try to split allof the really heinous chores like doing laundry and ironing. and don't put off writing your thank you notes because that's all you will hear about for months and months. good luck and enjoy your day!Edited by: samuelle

Hey, we were all nerdy teenagers at some point in time. Some of us nerdier than others. She is not yet an Eskimo, but I am turning her to the dark side. Now if I can only get Damo to sing at the reception, life would be pretty peachy. He will be in the states after all. And if that happens, Coach K would have to accept my invitation to be my best man. Now that would be a storybook wedding!!!!

Oh, and a big congrats to you WeeAngel!!!! It is an exciting time. Just remember that though family members' suggestions are well intended, you may not kill them. No matter how much you would like too.

I wanted the Duke fight song as the entrance music when we are announced at the reception. But she said no. Oh well, you just can't win 'em all.
