Vyv's Gig Review
Hey, was at Vyv's gig last night. She played more of her own stuff and less covers that previous gigs i've been at. She was really nervous, but smiley and chatty. There were 3 cellos. 1 guy on keyboard. 1 double bass and a drummer (not Tomo). The drummer was particularly excellent.
Some of the setlist: Blue Carousel Random Man Stop. Go. Stop. (don't know the name of this one) Test of Endurance White Stripes - My Doorbell N.E.R.D. - She Wants To Move Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Some christmas carol (can't remember which one) She also played some early-90's-sounding rap tune, that i didn't know. Can't really remember any lyrics from it, so i don't know what it is. I didn't see damien, lisa, tomo or shane there.

I got Vyvienne's setlist that she used, it's funny because she seems to be calling herself "Vyvacious Long", at least that's what's printed on top of the setlist anyway. The set went;
Indecision Hideaway Blue Carousel She Wants To Move Lonely At The Top The Ring Road Test of Endurance Never Leave You Random Man They're Not Waving My Doorbell Grease -------------- Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part II Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas -------------- She Wants To Move The line-up has changed for the band too, there's only three cello's now and a new double bass player called charlie. Who told me that the Other Voices session went quite well, they were the first band on the first night so there were a few sound glitches but it worked quite well overall. I asked him if he was doing any recording with Vyvienne and he said he didn't know anything about it and any plans would probably be secret. I thought the gig was really great, she only played for an hour and fifteen minutes despite doing two encores. Still though, the band seems to be much more 'together' then it did since I saw them last. I pretty much came away wishing that i had been recording it... Here's hoping for an album before 2007.

it was a good gig alright... the support act was (shall we say) interesting
The band were great and the drummer was the highlight... i kinda wanted the double bass player to do a few solos or at least spin it good gig but it doesnt exactly make me want to go again

I'd definitely go again... that drummer was pretty amazing too. I guess the band is in kind of a formative stage at the moment, they have moments when things come together in a musically incredible way, i'd definitely like to hear more of Vyvienne's songs too, they're really odd and kind of funny.

Yup I'll be there next time. I wish they'd done Bohemian Rhapsody again though
I love Random Man on the Motorway. I think I'll have to record the next gig since there's no plans for an e.p. or anything.

Googled it there and got led back to this site so I'd say yeah it is her own song. I thought it was anyway...it has that Vyvienne feel to it

I reckon the songs on that set that are original are Indecision, Hideaway, Blue Carousel, The Ring Road, Test Of Endurance, Random Man, They're Not Waving. Someone correct me on this if i'm wrong.

Whelan's is nice because there's no security and i was sitting directly in front of Vyv, so it was a simple matter of extending my right arm, closing my fingers around one corner of the sheet and then retracting my right arm while still tightly gripping to the paper.
And i thought of it before mr closing_doors beside me did.

Rub it in why don't you? At least you don't know about my elaborate scheme to break into your house (a la Smithers and Mr Burns breaking into the Simpsons) and extract it from your hands while you sleep....hang on, I shouldn't have said that....

Oh right... i didn't put two and two together there at all, then again if only we eskimo's had pictures of ourselves as avatars we might be easier to spot.
Maybe everyone i seem to be meeting in real life is an eskimo. How odd...

Do any of the band know about this site? Have they ever visited it? Do they know it exists?

We should pressure them into posting here... that might be funny. They could have disguises.

I didn't wear pajamas, i had a dinner jacket and a Bell X1 t-shirt. I didn't like Julie Feeney either, i thought she sounded like the Corrs... which i don't think anyone really aims for. I find stealing setlists is quite easy in Whelan's though, i have Glen's one from the Arnott's gig in 2004. it's just a list of seven songs though, and they played about 25... which is weird.

i tried to be nice to poor julie as she came down to the back straight after and i made a joke about her calling vyvienne "adrian" haha then she asked what we thought of the gig... its hard to lie to someone straight after a gig
please julie if you read this - dont give up the day job
