Gloomy but Cool indie pop
Need Help:
A friend of mine has started a club night in London called Feeling Gloomy – the whole idea is that "Sad songs can have the reverse affect in that they can actually cheer you up," Right so Eskimo experts what songs: (1) do you love but are a bit depressing - Mine would be a whole load of Smiths songs especially How Soon is Now There's a club if you'd like to go you could meet somebody who really loves you so you go, and you stand on your own and you leave on your own and you go home, and you cry and you want to die I’d also put in Please Please Please and There is a Light (2) or cool indie songs that are actually about morbid topics – I’m reliably informed that Wake Up Boo is actually about death and that James’s – Sit Down is about depression. Also that East 17’s – Stay Another Day is about the suicide of the songwriters brother. Anyone wanna suggest any similar tunes?? Maybe Evil from Interpol? The Club night begins on Sat the 20th in The Albany on Great Portland St. For more info http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4132008.stm

Haiti by Arcade Fire. It's about how Regine Chassagne's family were amongst those massacred by the Haitian military but when ever I listen to it I can't help but smile. Actually the whole album is lyrically down but musically joyous.

evil by interpol is a lush song!
but i myself, i don't really know what is meant by "indie" many have tried to explain this illusive genre to me but i don't get it. but when i'm in a state i like listening to damien rice, or feeder is good, i used to scream away my pain back in the 90s but now i feel like i just need something to cut my soul open. and melodic celestial serenades are the ones to do it. though i've had some difficulty finding what i need. sophie barker seems like my wanted anesthetic but i can't afford it and i could do without parental winges even if i could afford to buy.

Nick Drake had crippling depression, but it only half came through in his music. So it's a nice blend of the kind of sadness that made kurt cobain look like a ray of sunshine, and the kind of descriptiveness that makes a really annoying book.
Good stuff really. 'Evil' may me lush, but 'Untitled' is just heart stopping. Especially live.
