Default Lisa the singer damien the writer.....

Now I like DM a lot but its just not going to be the same withouth lisa involved. Its quite clear whenever you see them that Damien is the very talented writer and male voice of the band while Lisa is lead vocals (and ought to be on all the tracks). Its a bit like the Fleetwood Mac arrangement.

Without Lisa I am sorry to say I wont be going to see Damien again, but do look forward to seeing Lisa live when she gets going...

Sorry Damien but you've made a horrendous mistake my friend

Nonsense. I agree that Lisa brought a tremendous color to the band, but that by no means makes her the only reason to go see them live. While it is disappointing that they are not singing together anymore, its a shame if you stop seeing him just for that reason.

Damien Rice is really just a pseudonym for Lisa Hannigan.

Yes, and he also wrote some minor stage stuff under the name William Shakespeare too a few years ago, but discared them because he felt that he didn't mention his penis enough times.

i agree it was a huge mistake. To me Damien rice means Damien, Lisa and Vyvienne and the others. It didnt just mean Damien.

Did The Jimi Hendrix Experience just consist of Jimi, and was it only about him? Hell no it was about Mitch Mitchell and the others as well.

Was Led Zeppelin all about Robert Plant? Hell no it was also about John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page?

Damien Rice and his music wasnt just about him. Otherwise he wouldnt have even bothered to bring Lisa and Vyvienne along to gigs. he obviously felt they served some purpose.

In my mind, I remember clearly, watching Vh1 summer of 03 and seeing Volcano. A stunning video, beautiful song, powerful lyrics, and lisa was a big part of that song as well. To me the music of this band has always been not just Damien. Its more encompassing.

Its amazing how people seem to have thrown lisa to the wolves. Now that Damien has no use for her, she seems to be maligned and made fun of on this board. Thats unfair and rude. She is a great singer and an important part of the band.

I bought tickets for the portland gig. I assumed Lisa would be there. Its not a Damien Rice solo tour. He is touring with the band. Thus I bought the ticket assuming Lisa would be there.

It isnt the same without her. The music isnt the same. She was part of the band, an integral part, and to deny that is to deny the truth.

Its amazing how rude people on this board are. Anyone who suggests something negative about Damien is called out to be a "nonfan". How stupid is that crap? I proudly think for myself, and you all may want to try that crazy idea as well. Damien isnt Jesus. He isnt the second coming. He is a great musician, I have both his cd's, I have seen all his music videos, I watched Closer, and as I stated before I bought tickets tot he portland show, so I am not one of those "nonfans". I am a fan. But I am a fan who doesnt bow down to damien and worship everything he does.

Damien kicking lisa out, was a stupid, silly decision. And to suggest that this isnt an important or significant topic is crazy.

This place is the ultimate groupthink. When Damien enjoyed Lisa in the band people posted on her how great she was. Now he threw her under the bus, and people act like they could care less if she is gone or not, and that she served no purpose.

i agree lisa isnt the only reason to see Damien live, but to suggest that I am the only person who bought tickets thinking it would be the full experience, is crazy and insane. There are quite a few people who have said on this board that they bought tickets for upcoming shows and were sort of disappointed she wouldnt be at the gigs

*sigh*

This is why the band was not called 'Damien Rice and Friends' - or 'The Damien Rice Band.' The reason it was just his name that appeared on the CDs is because he has always had creatvie control - he enlisted people to help him on the way, and what a fine job they do, but they were always free to come and go as they pleased, and he was always the one witht he final say - because it's HIS music, HIS band. You might be upset, (and I'm not condoning or condemning Damien because I know nothing of the situation or of him as a person) but you have no right to judge so much.

Speaking of silly... It is silly to call Lisa the lead singer... Damien has always been the lead singer... On "O," Lisa doesn't even appear on "Delicate," "Cannonball," "Amie," "Cheers Darlin'," "Eskimo," and "Prague"; and she just echoes Damien on "Older Chests"

I thought I was buying Damien's records not Lisa's ones....
I love Lisa of course and I'm upset with the news just like everyone here because Lisa's contribution to Damo's music is huge but this thread is quite silly.

Default Damien's but a Kiddo

Boyo's go thru changes. My God, He's a young Kiddo. We move, we move, we grow...accept this one brief brilliant moment in time....That was brilliant, man!
Did the Beatles stop with "Yesterday"?
Damien fans need to stop preserving this boyo's art in amber.
Art is organic. Please accept this, not as a criticism, but as a plea from a Gardener.
Sit back and watch the Kiddo's music come at you, not take you in endless tape loops of "My favorite time".

This felt appropriate:

"This is a song I wrote when I was sitting with a bunch of friends around a fire, and something happened in that moment where everything slowed down and I had no hunger for the things I usually hunger for and I had no desire to be anywhere else and I had no desire to do anything because of right in that moment, I had no Idea why it happened, just in that moment I just felt alive and in that moment I felt like very creative. [...] Here we are, right now. There's never been a moment in your life ever before and there never will be a moment in life ever again like this one, right now."

We don't need to restrict anything. The igloo is plenty big enough for everyone. Just once this doesn't get like the whole Keane v McCarthy controversy

I was thinking today while I was listening to the song, Sleep don't Weep, which completely broke my heart... I'll bet BOTH Damien and Lisa feel sad..
Its hard on us fans who adore them, and love hearing them together, but just imagine how they feel, they have worked very closely together for six years. It's got to be hard, no matter what brought them to this decision.

I should add, I will support both Lisa and Damien , separately or together, always.
I am a fan of both.

I have to say waking up that morning and seeing the news about Damien and Lisa splitting up was one of the most devastating news ive ever seen. Last summer, I went to see Fiona Apple in concert and Damien was opening up for her. I never even heard of him before and 99% of the time I cant stand opening Acts. I dont have the patience for them. When they came on stage, i was blown away with Volcano and then 9 crimes and the whole experience. I couldnt believe what I was seeing.
After that night, I bought O and everything else by Damien and he soon shot up to one of my favorites of all time. I was listening to cd's all day and every day. Just amazing! Then, 9 came out and it once again - amazing!
HOWEVER, I will definitely say absolutely 100%, if it werent for Lisa at that concert that night and seeing the COMBINATION of the two of them, absolutely none of this would have happened. I would have just left that night and said,"wow, the opener was real good" and left it at that. He is an incredible songwriter but its that Damien/Lisa team that makes it so great. Sometimes I refer to Lisa as the secret weapon but its much more than that. Shes essential. I did go to one show of theirs and it was outrageous and as much as i love Damien, I will never go to another show of his and my excitement for his next CD is barely there. Very sad to me. On the other side, I dont see much excitement for a Lisa cd as well. She is an amazing singer but not an outstanding songwriter. The two of them is the ultimate combination.

By the way, Is everyone just Assuming or does anyone know as a fact that HE was the one who got rid of her? How do we know that she wasnt the one who decided to move on to bigger things? Thanks for any info!
