rand is the closest thing i have to a jesus christ.....the pillar of my personal beliefs.

atlas shrugged and anthem are both great and fountainhead as well if you havent read it. i used to be thomas keating. am now howard roark. damien reminds me of roark.

atlas shrugged is now in the process of being movied. trilogy. angelina jolie is most likely to play the lead and i could see that. she and pitt are apparently big fans. and the producers are very intent on keeping it close to the book. everyone involved are fans and involved with her philosophy in some way. should be good.

I'm reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel right now. So far it has been very good.

Next up after that is probably Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

I'm reading 'Bird Song' at the moment. And some Yeats poems. Also got some Plath poems I'm reading too.

And I'm going to read a Terry Pratchett book. Because I'm feeling a little down at the moment and Pratchett is the King of long term comedy and happiness.

Just finished Tsotsi by Athol Fugard, am now reading Blackout by John Nance, which is a big fat plane distaster novel, kindof trashy but fun all the same.

I'm in the middle of reading an amazing book called "Mammals" by Pierre Merot. It's this brilliant little novel about "the uncle" and, basically, his life. He's a ****-up, an alcoholic, a stuggling writer...and while that all sounds very cliche and boring, it is really very interesting and intelligent.

just got back from holliday which means i had time to read books, even if i could only take 3 anyway.... Power and the Glory by Graham Greene = lush verry kind of thought provoking for me. A Clockwork Orange but Antony Burgess, which is absolutely fooking lush.

And "Sleepers" by Lorenzo Carcaterra. but that's just BEYOND a book. A story which could have been forgotten, if it weren't for this book which makes sure it never will be, which is exactly how it should be.

Default Why is the measure of love...loss?

I've started reading this book, its truely amazingly perfect! I think its sooo acurate, if you have time you should read the quotes, extracts, hear the extracts, and possibly buy it! It is worth it, and you will not be dissapointed!

Written on the body is a secret code only visible in certain lights: the accumulations of a lifetime gather there. In places the palimpsest is so heavily worked that the letters feel like Braille. I like to keep my body rolled up away from prying eyes, never unfold too much, or tell the whole story. I didn't know that Louise would have reading hands. She has translated me into her own book.

It's a simple story; love found, love lost, love found again - maybe. The unnamed narrator falls for a married woman called Louise. Louise leaves her husband but when she finds she has cancer, she leaves her new lover too. Written on the Body is a journey of self-discovery made through the metaphors of desire and disease.

Quote:
One night, after a seafood lasagne and a bottle of champagne we made love so vigorously that the Lady's Occasional was driven across the floor by the turbine of our lust. We began by the window and ended by the door. It's well-known that molluscs are aphrodisiac, Casanova ate his mussels raw before pleasuring a lady but then he also believed in the stimulating powers of hot chocolate.

Articulacy of fingers, the language of the deaf and dumb, signing on the body body longing. Who taught you to write in blood on my back? Who taught you to use your hands as branding irons? You have scored your name into my shoulders, referenced me with your mark. The pads of your fingers have become printing blocks, you tap a message on to my skin, tap meaning into my body. Your morse code interferes with my heart beat. I had a steady heart before I met you, I relied upon it, it had seen active service and grown strong. Now you alter its pace with your own rhythm, you play upon me, drumming me taut.

We tried to be quiet for Elgin's sake. He had arranged to be out but Louise thought he was at home. In silence and in darkness we loved each other and as I traced her bones with my palm I wondered what time would do to skin that was so new to me. Could I ever feel any less for this body? Why does ardour pass? Time that withers you will wither me. We will fall like ripe fruit and roll down the grass together. Dear friend, let me lie beside you watching the clouds until the earth covers us and we are gone.

Is that a lady love book Beevers? Jeanette Winterson writes alot of lady-love books!
I do alot of reading, for business or pleasure, or whatnot, and I am currently proof-reading a novel called "disgraceland" written by a journalist friend of mine, it's very innovative in it's story telling, but it's sadly unfinished! So I have to wait forever for the end!
I am also reading Paolo Coehlo - Veronika Decides to Die. But it's not as fluent a read as The Alchemist.

Its is meant to be a Lesbian Love story. But its never clear that its a woman or a man who is in love with Louise! There are some hints of it being a man, that might have been gay early on in life, then there are some hints of it being a woman! However, she did say in an interview that it is Semi-Autobigraphical! (is that the right way around?)

I've just bought her... "Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit"

I've read that, but it was a while ago, that's semi-autobiographical too. I enjoyed it; it wasn't the best book I've ever read but it was a nice winter read.
Written on The Body sounds like a good read, I like the idea of the androgynous narrator. It really proves a point about love, that it is irrelevant of gender!

Well its winter now, so it should keep me busy at work, and when im alone at home!

Written on The Body, is amazing!! There are some increadibly sad parts in it, normally i dont feel alot of emotion when reading, but i did with this! Some of the descriptions are the best i have ever, ever read! They are really amazing!
