No Murphy's or L.A. Law yet but Boston Legal seems to come up every so often!
^^ Glad to hear it! Things are never quite as intimidating in reality as they are in our heads (my first/second days of law school have actually been pretty great) Vee, I'm sure you'll be off on a new adventure really soon! The last one seemed to suit you pretty well And now... I've got a huge stack of readings to get through and a paper (2 days in and I already have a paper due!) to work on. |

Too many drama seekers in my life at the moment. I choose to be happy, and not negative. Why are all these crazy people (family and others) sucking all of the positive energy out of my life? Ugh!! I am trying hard to rise above it.

^ That sucks. Hope your positive energy rubs off on them!
What's got me down - I've had a cold for the longest time, and the number of medications I can take for it are very limited. I'm starting to feel better; hopefully it will be gone by this weekend. But I am so not looking forward to this year's cold/flu season, especially with the kids in preschool - they'll be bringing home everything! Last edited by bearbait; 09-03-2009 at 08:39 PM. |

I was browsing around in a store earlier today and I heard the most atrocious cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song that is actually quite dear to me.
I was like, "shut the **** up." There are certain songs or artists' work that should just be left alone. Leave it alone.

lol! yes, "la lora" is loro´s wife... and as eva said, it means nothing to you, but is quite harsh in here. imagine saying something like: coño+me cago en la hostia+me cago en todo lo que se menea... all together! (it ins´t appropriate for a girl, i know, but i couldn´t help it.)

Ha! I'm following this conversation. I want to know what the entire literal English translation of that expression is so that I can understand what is so profane or insulting about it!

I like this conversation. If i'm not mistaken the expression is La concha de la lora! Please correct if i'm wrong Vere or Eva. I had a very foul mouthed Argentinian friend back in high school, she was entertaining. Concha, as far as I know, is slang for Vagina in a very cras and profane way. At least in Venezuela it does. (it also means shell but I doubt that's what they are referring to ). What would be the english equivalent?? They can probably explain the expression better than I can, especially the instances in which its used?? Is it to express frustration or being angry at someone? I'm not sure. But there, I did all the dirty work for you

O.k., I'm enjoying my Spanish lesson here. "The vagina of the person that talks too much", where the use of a female parrot (because a parrot can mimic human speech) signifies that we're referring to someone that talks a lot or too much from our perspective. Are we trying to say something like, "stop talking [so much] out of your vagina"?

hahaha maybe you're reading to much in to it :P
I don't think there's an equivalent expression in the english language, or something to translated it to. like maria said, it's more like a sign of frustration or powerlessness (is that a word?). something like shouting "f***ing hell!!" concha is quite a vulgar word, like c*nt |

There's only one thing I feel I should mention: parrots don't have vaginas, just cloacas. Thank you.

well, you said almost everything. maria, you were fantastic on your explanation. i´m sorry you had to do the dirtiest work
just a few things: - you say something like "la c... de la lora" when you´re frustrated or angry. and it can be very insulting, since you also can say "la c... de tu hermana (sister)" or "la c... de tu madre (mother)" to somebody else. - marti, as far as i´ve heard in spain, it would be more like "coño" (i found it more insulting), but probably i´m wrong. it occured to me you can say "hostia" as a positive commentary, which it might not happen with argentinian insult (at all). - and we don´t usually say "lora" to refer to a woman who talks too much. we use "cotorra" which is a synonymous of "lora"

Haha I somehow love the literal interpretation by OrangeJasmin.... It sounds worst than the actual phrase yet soo innocent.
