DR setlist Minneapolis 4/6/2004 start around 8:45 1) "Lonely Soldier"* (Solo acoustic) 2) Delicate 3) Volcano 4) Older Chests 5) Prague 6) Tongue 7) Baby Sister 8) I Remember -> Extended jam/vocal overdub 9) Aime -> guitar overdub/extra verse (~15 min)** 10) Cold Water 11) Professor (fast speed) 12) Be My Husband*** (Nina Simone cover) ------------------------ encore 13) Seven Nation Army (White Stripes cover - Viv singing/cello, Tomo drums) 14) Grey Room 15) When Doves Cry (Prince cover) / extended quiet guitar solo (10-12 minutes) 16) Blower's Daughter end around 10:35 *Not sure what this song was... He uses the term Lonely Soldier early on (no, not "another soldier" from Aime) **He really carried this a long time, 15 minutes is an estimate, led directly into Cold Water ***Lisa singing, Viv playing percussive cello, Damien playing percusive guitar, Tomo and Shane playing drums Comments: -Crowd was really good for Frames and DR. The show was in a theater, so none of the bar noise that was plaguing recent shows. The Frames seemed to particularly appreciate this, and put on a very fun set and got the crowd on their side early on. I think they won over a few new fans. -Damien seemed to start off in a good mood, then really rocked out through the last half of the main set, and then came out really mellow in the encore. Only talked a few times--told a funny story early on about the meaning of Volcano, and chided some people going to the bathroom during The Professor. He stopped and started it 3 times and seemed sort of annoyed, which is why I think he tore through it at about double speed (and IMO sort of ruined the song, unfortunately). -The main set was absolutely incredible. Highlights were: the opener (anyone know the title??), Baby Sister, and I remember/Aime/Cold Water which all three together must have lasted about a half hour, and was performed in low light, total darkness, and with only a spinning mirror ball giving off light at various times. -Encore was a pretty big disappointment for me, especially after the strong main set (and the absolutely incredible encore they put on last fall when they were in Minneapolis). Damien seemed almost bored and disinterested--When Doves Cry was basically the first verse/chorus of the song with acoustic guitar, and then the rest of the 10 minutes or so was almost entirely the same basic acoustic riff over and over and over and over..... Still, the show was awesome despite what was (for me) a weak ending.Edited by: BIgDaddyPolite |

i agree, a great show up until the encore. the reason being, the crew that
takes down is union. they needed to get them done by a certain time otherwise they would get payed overtime and the band has to pay for the overtime. remember the guy coming out with the note. i believe is said "3 minutes until overtime" |

Yep, I think Marti is right on about the encore getting wrapped up quicker than the band might have planned. Someone definitely came out with a note that told them to wrap up soon, and that was just before they kicked into Blower's Daughter for the last song. I think there might actually be a Minneapolis ordinance about the time that "All Ages" shows can end as well due to curfew, and that could have been an issue--anyone else aware of this? |

nice comments, i agree about the encore as well. there were some things i definitely enjoyed more about the Fine Line show, but also many things i liked more about this one (Lisa for one ) as for curfew, i believe the curfew for theater shows (State/Orpheum/Pantages) is 11pm, and that isn't an All Ages restriction, i think it has more to do w/ a city ordinance than anything. most All Ages shows at other venues (First Ave, Quest, etc.) end around 9:30-10, but i've gone to shows at venues outside of Mpls, that were AA and lasted at least until midnlight. so likely the curfew was in fact 11, but they have to have everyone out of the place by then, so means the shows have to end around 10:40-45 or so . i gotta admit, i was getting a bit bored during the jam after I Remember and Amie, they both were really cool, but just went on a bit too long imo, and started to get kinda redundant/uninteresting after a while. but overall that's prolly my only complaint (besides the shorter than average encore). the Frames kicked ASS, but was sad they only got 40 minutes. Glen said they'd hopefully be back later this summer. i didn't get to go to the Fine Line show last Sept, but saw em twice in 02 at the 400 Bar. hopefully they do a full headlining show next time around. and i agree, they won over a lot of fans. i saw people buying more Frames cd's than Damien (granted they all prolly had most of it Edited by: solace |

Thanks for the review! I'm so happy the Frames are getting such good reception. Hopefully it means we'll seee them stateside more often.

He playeda new song AND "Grey Room"!?! You lucky bastards. I sure hope he plays it at one of the two shows I'm seeing (4/11 and 4/24). I adore that one and believe/hope it will be on the new album. |

I too agree with the previous posts of the show. It did seem the extended
jams perhaps went on too long, and considering the time crunch, would have prefered more songs than the guitar noodlings. Did anyone else get the feeling that Damien was trying to remember more lyrics to 'when doves cry' while he was strumming? it just seemed that way to me, and when he couldn't he just kept strumming away. So anybody that lives in Minneapolis tape the show. I would gladly buy them a few pints in exchange for a chance to relive the grand experience that was last nite show. Cant wait for his 'rock and roll' record to come out, those loud numbers are great. Cheers!

I am pretty sure Lisa played drums on Seven Nation Army. Damien kicked bag, but I agree, his jams droned on a bit too much. Oh well, nobody's perfect. |
