i know people here have met up with other eskimos. i think because of
all the lectures other people give teenagers, i'm always slightly afraid when i email people from the internet (not necessarily eskimos, sometimes people from the frames' messageboard) that they're not really a 17-year old girl but a 67-year old man. what i'd like to know is are they scaremongering, or should i be so edgy when texting/emailing/meeting up with people?? (sorry for the waffling post, it's late...)

well in here as itssuch a friendly placeid generally be of the opinion that everyones who they say they are but id never be afraid or worried about emailing people....giving out your phone number for texting or whatever is completely different tho...probably take some more care in finding out who the person is....as far as meeting up with people goes, id wanna be 100% sure of the person! i do sometimes wonder about some people tho, like u sed bout the 67-year old man!

A huuuuge yay for meeting fellow eskimos!!!! Ahem, anyway... I think MSN (or another messaging service) is usuallya goodcommon ground to really get to know someone. If they're not who they say they are then I think it'd show over time in this way. Don't be too paranoid but don't be taken for a gullible fool either and it should be ok. I don't think random weirdos come on here really cos it's not like a general chat room. Everyone on here already has something in common so a certain level of honesty is kinda inadvertently already achieved.

I wouldn't be so sure MSN would weed any imposters out. I say stay paranoid.
Never meet anyone for the first time alone. Go with a group... it's safer AND easier if you don't really get along with the person when you meet them.

I've met quite a lot of 'internet forum folk' in the last year or more ...and luckly never had any problems yet. Probably meeting up at gigs is a good way start but maybe not best to go alone ....I've done it but I'm and old goat and i reckon if anyone wanted to kidnap me or anything, they'd firstly have to be blind to consider it and would also need some fairly strong lifting equipment to cart me off. I even had half-a-dozen nutty forumsters staying over at my house a few weekends ago and that all went ok ...I think?

I'd say it's always wise to be a little cautious, if I was a female and I arranged to meet up with someone from a forum or chat room, I would always take a friend for the first meeting... ALWAYS!!! I have met a few people from forums (I am only a member of two... Actually three since joining the Tom Baxter forum the other day). We met as a group, so there were five of us coming from all over the UK and I know that made the girl a lot happier than meeting just one male... Whilst on the surface, I would say the eskimos are lovely people, you can't trust anyone really without knowing them, trust has to be earned, always remember that. I had a forum mate (female) come and stay in my island for 8 weeks this summer and I have met her and her boyfriend a few times in London and we are good friends now. I am really 'for' people meeting up from forums I just think taking the right steps is important. Any by the way, whilst I am not a psycho about twenty of you fine eskimos gave me your address in order for me to send you my CDs!!! Weren't you scared just a little?

Obviously the most important thing if you're going t meet a net person is to do it in a public place. (Hee hee, do it in a public place, I meant the meeting)
