new Greatest Bastard lyrics?
so Damo sing some new parts in The Greatest Bastard. The old lyric that went something like "I woke in bed/You're in my head/...You were there waiting for me/and with a smile you said/Have you seen her recently?" is gone... this part has been replaced by a new part that I think goes like:
we learnt to wag and tuck our tails, we learnt to win and then to fail, we learnt that lovers love to sing, and that losers learn to cling (?) but then there's a whole new bridge or chorus or whatever, and I do not understand a thing only the "I never meant to let you down" line... but the rest... nada... anyone??????????????????????? (Spamlet, where are you?)

Here's something close to the current version of the song, including a first attempt at the chords. Not sure about the new lyrics, though, so I took nassau's version. And maybe they learned that lovers love to *sin* instead of sing? :-)
D D/F# G A I made you laugh, I made you cry I made you open up your eyes. Didn't I? I helped you open out your wings Your legs and many other things. Didn't I? Em D/F# G A Am I the greatest bastard that you know? The only one who let you go? The one you hurt so much you cannot bear... D D/F# G A Well, we were good when we were good, When we were not misunderstood. You helped me love, you helped me live. You helped me learn how to forgive. Didn't you? I wish that I could say the same But when you left, you left the blame. Didn't you? Am I the greatest bastard that you met? The only one you can’t forget Am I the one your truth's been waiting for? D D/F# G A Or am I just dreaming once again? Some dreams are better when they end. D D/F# G A Some make it, mistake it, some force and some will fake it. Bm F#m G A I never meant to let you down. D D/F# G A Some fret it, forget it, some ruin and some regret it. Bm F#m G A I never meant to let you down. D D/F# G A We learned to wag and tuck our tails, we learned to win and then to fail. Didn’t we? We learned that lovers love to sin(g) and that losers love to cling. Didn’t we? Em D/F# G A Am I the greatest bastard that you know? When will we learn to let this go? We've fought so much we've broken all the chart. D D/F# G A But letting go is not the same As pushing someone else away. Bm F#m G A So please don't let on you don't know me. Please don't let on I'm not here. Please don't let on you don't love me: 'Cause I know you do. I know you D D/F# G A Some make it, mistake it, some force and some will fake it. Bm F#m G A I never meant to let you down. D D/F# G A Some fret it, forget it, some ruin and some regret it. Bm F#m G A I never meant to let you down. My guess is that it is 'sin' not 'sing'
And maybe 'some ruin and some regret it' (not rule) That seems to make more sense. And I definitely hear the 'n' Last edited by carrroline; 05-24-2013 at 08:54 PM. |

It does make more sense, good suggestion! Any idea what 'some fret it' is supposed to mean or what he might actually sing instead of it? (Maybe it's just my not being a native speaker that's causing trouble here.)

I'm not sure, but I do believe 'some fret it' is correct.
When you fret, you worry so much about something that it eats away at you. Sounds familiar |

How about this:
Some fretted, forget it, some ruined and some regret it. |

This sounds like Ed Sheeran. Not good.

Well, the question wasn't so much about how we like it, more about whether that is really what he is singing. This, for what it's worth, would at least make sense. The 'ruined' might of course also be a 'Some ruin' and thus more general. Simple solution: Put in on your next album and include lyrics, Damien. Oh, and isn't 2013 a great year to release things? *wink*

^Articulus, you already posted the exact same thing in another thread. Once was enough. That´s trolling. Go troll somewhere else.

I think it's 'broken all the charm'.
