I'm a fan of all kinds of music, especialy singer/songwriter stuff. I love Damien Rice's songs and hope to cover one or twoon an open mic night that is starting in the pub down the road in a few weeks time. It'll be my first gig so I'm really nervous - any hints to calm me down folks? Also, does anyone know if Damien play's with a plectrum or just his thumb and fingers?

he switches it up... mostly plays with his fingers but uses a pick for straight strumming or when he's trying to get more volume out of his guitar...

joggg ....good luck with ur gig....as someone whos played in pubs before, the advice id give is not to get too worked up...the crowd wont notice if u hit some wrong notes! its funny but true....you'll be fine if u just play away and play through any mistakes u do make, and nooone will be any the wiser....alcohol is great for an audience! that said, if the crowd is into it it can be v good.... best of luck !

Good luck! Don't take it too seriously, the main aim is to have fun!! I'd love to sing in an open mic night... *sigh* Any musician from Cardiff here?

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. Your right, the audience want to have a nice time and want to enjoy the music too. As long as i don't drop my guitar or pass out I should be fine! I think I'll cover Volcano, it's one of my favourites and probably the oneI find easiest (is that cheating!?). I'll let you know how it goes.
