What is the ftp?

I'm not really good with all the technical stuff, but in the threads I read a lot about the ftp, but I have no idea what is? Can anyone tell me and how I can get there? It seems I can get some songs and videos there.

Ok, I think I figured out what the ftp is, but I the old ftp someone called Mario put up still working? Are there any other ftp's?
